Jimmy Moreland
Cornerback
James Madison
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall experience at the 2019 East/West Shrine Game.
Jimmy Moreland: It is my first time actually being in St. Pete, and I am from Florida. It is a great environment. All of the players here are great motivators. It is a great time being here with them. I am showcasing my talent and I enjoying every moment.
Alex Khvatov: How does a guy from Florida wind up at James Madison?
Jimmy Moreland: My defensive coordinator at James Madison is a close friend of my high school head coach. He saw an opportunity to recruit me. He went after me. It was a great experience at James Madison.
Alex Khvatov: What other schools were interested in you?
Jimmy Moreland: I had a lot of MAC schools. But they took their offers back because I was underweight.
Alex Khvatov: How much did you weigh in high school?
Jimmy Moreland: I was around 150, but I played every position in high school. I was the true star of my team. I always see skills. I don’t see the size. I can play with the best of them.
Alex Khvatov: What positions did you play in high school?
Jimmy Moreland: I played QB and receiver. I played every position except for OL and DL.
Alex Khvatov: Do you take a lot of pride in being a ball-hawk at the CB position?
Jimmy Moreland: I do take a lot of pride in that. You have to get three and outs or cause a turnover on defense. My defensive coordinator takes a lot pride in it. Getting a turnover is a good motivator for the offense. I try to help the offense get the ball quicker and score.
Alex Khvatov: How tough was it not having your teammate CB Rashad Robinson there due to an injury this year?
Jimmy Moreland: It was kind of difficult. I had him with me on the other side the last couple of years. I had to get the young guys ready. There were also a lot of injured corners behind Rashad.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Jimmy Moreland: The National Championship win. We had a lot of great players. We had fun that year. We knew what we were capable of doing and we went out there and accomplished it.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Jimmy Moreland: My playmaking ability. I like to get turnovers.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Jimmy Moreland: Focusing on my eyes. Breaking on the receiver instead of staring at the QB. I am also learning the game more from the slot, focusing on different releases and routes.
Alex Khvatov: Who was the best WR during the Shrine Game practices?
Jimmy Moreland: Terry (Godwin), dude from Georgia. He is a great route runner. He has good hands. I took pride in guarding him in practice today.
Alex Khvatov: What one word best describes you?
Jimmy Moreland: Exciting. Always smiling and having fun. I bring energy to the team. I want to have fun.
