Tre King
Running Back
Texas Tech

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Tre King:  6’0, 197 and I am going for a 4.4 at my pro day.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Tre King:  At APEC in Fort Worth, Texas.  They have LB Gary Johnson (Texas), WR KaVontae Turpin (TCU), S Santos Ramirez from Arkansas and S P.J. Locke from Texas here.  They also have Solomon Thomas and Patrick Mahomes, but they are working out with the NFL group.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your daily training routine right now.

Tre King:  I am staying about an hour away from APEC.  I get to the facility early at around 8:30 in the morning.  The workout starts at 10:30 am.  I stretch, loosen up and hop on a bike.  We do acceleration and speed training till 1:30 in the afternoon.  Then we have meetings.  At 2pm, we do skill work.  I am with the WR’s catching the ball.

Alex Khvatov:  When is your Pro Day?

Tre King:  On March 25th.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Tre King:  I had interest from Northern Iowa, South Dakota and K-State.  I am from Wichita, Kansas originally.  Coach Weis recruited me when he was at Kansas.  The main thing were my grades.  I was a class clown in high school, but I was smart.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at JUCO?

Tre King:  My grades weren’t good enough.  I felt comfortable with Hutchinson CC.  I liked the coaches.  They saw me in high school.  Alvin Kamara played there. Cordarrelle Patterson went there.  Players went to power 5 schools after attending Hutchinson and then went to the NFL.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you decide to transfer to Texas Tech?

Tre King:  Coming out, I had an offer from Eastern Kentucky.  But they chose a different guy instead of me.  I was focusing on school.  I didn’t have any offers on signing day.  It was March or April, and my head coach called me to come down to the stadium.  Texas Tech was one of the schools there.  Texas Tech receivers’ coach Emmett Jones was there.  He is at Kansas now.  He didn’t know who I was.  I introduced myself.  I graduated in June.  I was watching the NBA finals.  I got a call from the RB’s coach at Texas Tech.  He told me that they needed help at RB.  They wanted me to come to camp because coach Kingsbury liked my film.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Tre King:  I am a hard-nosed RB.  I am a team player and a student of the game.  I make people miss.  I can help in the pass game.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Tre King:  Be more durable.  I am not the fastest guy or the slowest guy, but I want to improve my speed.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Tre King:  I beat a lot of odds to get here.  Many people doubted me.  I am not done.  I want to show people that they were wrong.  I can play at the next level.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Tre King:  My game against Oklahoma my junior year.  It was my first start.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Tre King:  Rushing for over 100 yards in a game.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Tre King:  They helped me become more of a student of the game.  I understand things better now.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Tre King:  The Falcons.  Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Sanu, Matt Ryan at QB and that OL.  I can help them.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Tre King:  Tom Brady.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a RB?

Tre King:  Being a student of the game.  Knowing everything.  Being able to catch the ball and being a good teammate.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Tre King:  CB Adrian Frye had a good year for us as a redshirt freshman.  WR Seth Collins is another player.  He was a transfer from Oregon State.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your teammate WR Antoine Wesley.

Tre King:  He played a little bit as a freshman.  Antoine is a very hard worker.  He is always the last one to leave.  He is always catching extra balls.  This year, he was doing the same thing as last year.  He got his chance and had a big impact this year.  He was a leader for us.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Tre King:  Safety Mike Lee out of Kansas.  He was a beast when we played them my junior year.  I will juke him and he will still tackle me.  He was good.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the toughest team to go up against in the Big 12?

Tre King:  Big 12 is a competitive league.  There are a lot of good teams.  Teams do play defense in the Big 12.  You always have to bring your A game.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you compare QB’s Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray?

Tre King:  Kyler is faster and quicker, and Baker is showtime.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your former head coach Kliff Kingsbury?

Tre King:  Coach Kingsbury understands a lot.  He is a hard-working guy.  He made it look fun.  He came to our facility at 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning and left late.  He is a player’s coach.  He knows what he is talking about.  He is always coming up with new and creative plays.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Tre King:  Being able to show myself.  Football is game of art.  I play this game with passion.
