DT Boogie Roberts (San Jose State) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

DT Boogie Roberts (San Jose State) Interview

Boogie Roberts
Defensive Tackle

San Jose State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Boogie Roberts:  6’1, 300, 33-inch arms, 10-inch hands and we shall see about the 40 time.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Boogie Roberts:  I’m training in Miami.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Boogie Roberts:  Coming out of high school, the schools were SJSU, Boise State,  Nevada, Wyoming and UTEP.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose San Jose State?

Boogie Roberts:  I decided to go to SJSU because it was the closest to home with my mom being sick.  I also watched them upset unbeaten Fresno State and saw how the guys were flying around.  I wanted to be a part of it.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Boogie Roberts:  I would say my strengths are my quickness, natural leverage, hand usage and my overall football IQ.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Boogie Roberts:  I would say my weakness is having a counter move after my first one doesn’t land and just work on bending more once I have my guy beat.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Boogie Roberts:  I would say it was a blessing to be a three-year starter at a D-I program.  Nose guards don’t usually get the limelight, but during my career I was very productive, and the numbers speak for themselves.  I would say my career was great.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Boogie Roberts:   My highlights would be sacking one of my closest friends Troy Williams in 2016 and in 2018 I got to play running back and I scored a touchdown against Hawaii.  Every fat boy’s dream.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Boogie Roberts:  Graduating is my best accomplishment.  I’ll have my degree forever.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the 2019 Tropical Bowl all-star game?

Boogie Roberts:  Playing in the Tropical Bowl was a blessing.  I was able to showcase my talents in front of all those NFL scouts.  It was a dream come true.  I’m very thankful for them giving me that opportunity to show my skills and also give me one more college football game.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will took away from that all-star weekend?

Boogie Roberts:  The biggest thing I took away is every rep matters and when you are fighting to get recognized, I even stole some reps to prove my point.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Boogie Roberts:  Tampa Bay Bucs.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Boogie Roberts:  Aaron Donald.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DL?

Boogie Roberts:  I would say, it depends on what that team or scheme calls for, but one basic tool for a DL needs is to be explosive.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Boogie Roberts:  Before the ball is snapped, I’m looking at the down and distance and also where the RB is lined up.  If you can see that you can tell 90 percent of the time what type of blocking scheme you’re going to get from the o-line.  I also listen to the o-line because there are always calling out the mike LB.  The mike LB has always been right behind me, so I can tell where they are going.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Boogie Roberts:  A leader is anybody that can get a group of men on the same stage to rally around him and believe in the messages he’s trying to get across.  A leader has to put in the work and lead by example.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Boogie Roberts:  After football, I want to be a sports broadcaster.
