Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Brodrick Mclean: I am 5’10, 250 and a 4.8.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
Brodrick Mclean: I am training at my college at UNC Pembroke. I stayed at my university as a student, even though I played football at JUCO.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Brodrick Mclean: In high school, I wrestled initially. Senior year, I rotated in and out with my brother. I wasn’t highly recruited. I had some D-III schools.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you choose UNC Pembroke?
Brodrick Mclean: I went there as a student and I walked on for football. I played for one year. But I had to step away because of grades. I had to mature. I was really cocky. I didn’t want to transfer to a different school because I knew that I could get a great education at UNC Pembroke.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you transfer to University of God’s Chosen?
Brodrick Mclean: I didn’t leave UNC Pembroke. I kept going to class. I left the football program. I went to play football at a JUCO.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your career.
Brodrick Mclean: I played at the University of God’s Chosen in 2017 and 2018. This was a brand-new program. We didn’t have a lot of games. We played four games my first season and then we played two games my senior year. We had some financial problems and some mismanagement. I have also played some minor league football and in a semi-pro league. I also played for an all-star team. I played for Team USA, and we played overseas in Canada and Mexico. It was organized by East Preps. I also played at the Senior Scout Bowl in Myrtle Beach with D-II, D-III, D-I, JUCO guys and three international players. I was a starting LB there. I got a camp invite to the American Arena League. Cape Fear Heroes gave me a two-week tryout, which will start on Monday.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Brodrick Mclean: My IQ and high-motor. I bring emotion and ambition. I am always competing to the whistle. I have good awareness and I communicate well on the field.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Brodrick Mclean: Elusiveness. Learning the playbook and different defensive coverages. Speed and technique.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Brodrick Mclean: Being able to compete against D-I players at the Senior Scout Bowl in Myrtle Beach. I wanted to prove myself every single play. I ended up being a starter at ILB. I made a huge play in practice and I came up with a safety in the game.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Brodrick Mclean: I always liked the Jets, even though I was born and raised in North Carolina.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Brodrick Mclean: Ray Lewis is my guy.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a LB?
Brodrick Mclean: You have to be disciplined. You have a huge responsibility as an interior LB.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Brodrick Mclean: I made a promise to my grandmother when I was a sophomore in high school that I will play professional football. She never doubted me. She took me to the games, but she passed away before I was able to play. Football is my outlet.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Brodrick Mclean: I like visual art. I like to spend time with kids.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Brodrick Mclean: I am majoring in computer science. I should graduate in May. I always wanted to work for a company that provides services for big companies and government companies. I had a lot of internships with government companies. I spent 600 hours doing an internship with the police department. I was an intern with Homeland security and with a multimillion-dollar company.
