Punter Andrew Zecca (St. Francis) Interview

Andrew Zecca
Punter
St. Francis

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Andrew Zecca:  Height 6’2″, 200 pounds and TBA on my 40 time.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Andrew Zecca:  Train at my dad’s construction work-site.  Heavy lifting, digging and work machines.  Then I leave for an hour or two a day and go to a local football field to punt.  I have gone to kicking camps Zauner & JKohl.

Alex Khvatov:  When is your Pro Day?  What are your expectations for that day?

Andrew Zecca:  March 18th at Temple University.  My expectations are to perform to the best of my ability.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the 2019 Tropical Bowl all-star game?

Andrew Zecca:  It was exhilarating.  First the National Bowl, then the Tropical Bowl!  I love Daytona Beach area and meeting up with some of the players that I knew from past games and many new faces from FCS and FBS.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from that all-star game?

Andrew Zecca:  Playing with the caliber and level of players.  The level of competition and energy.  The meeting of new teammates and working with a variety of coaches.  I really enjoyed working with the special team’s coordinator as well.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Andrew Zecca:  Muhlenberg, Mount Union, Albany and I was talking to SHU.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose St. Francis?

Andrew Zecca:  Small school setting that said they would start me as a punter.  I really thought the recruitment visitation day and the SFU coaching staff were amazing.  Coach Chris Villarrial was a strong leader.  Special teams coach Garett Clawson came in during my sophomore year and really made a difference.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Andrew Zecca:  Solid and consistent work ethics.  In PA, we get tons of snow.  I still went out daily, shoveled and punted.  The LAX team posted it on snap-chat.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Andrew Zecca:  Fake punts.  I’m also hyper focused on my hang-time.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career to us.

Andrew Zecca:  Football wise, I am grateful to have been at St. Francis University and become part of the family and football brotherhood.   I have my real estate license and incorporate building strength when at the work-site.  When I’m not at the work site, I stretch with Michelle McCabe fascial tissue massage, sometimes cryotherapy.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Andrew Zecca:  NEC Champs…. and getting three championship rings! (National Bowl & Tropical Bowl).  I also had the longest punt in college history of 73 yards against Villanova in a playoff game.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Andrew Zecca:  FCS National Teams Player of the Week.  We won against a team that was a larger D-I program.  I also remember when we hosted a D-III team from Florida that didn’t have the money to come up to play with us, so we helped them.  They were so grateful that we played them and had the opportunity.  It really put things in perspective.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Andrew Zecca:  Support, family, technique execution and study film over and over!

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Andrew Zecca:  Definitely the Jets.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Andrew Zecca:  Tom Brady.  He rose above the naysayers and negative mindset.  He said “Well what do they know about me”.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a punter?

Andrew Zecca:  Keeping your mindset and working even when they don’t see you.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Andrew Zecca:  OL Christian Eubanks, Jermaine Ponder DB, Da’Jon Lee LB #19 and Nick Rinella #25 DB for next year.  Currently – Lorenzo Jerome #22, Kamron Lewis #2 wide receiver and safety #5 Hakeem Kinard.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Andrew Zecca:  The daily routine and structure and accountability.  The studying of the film and the execution of the punt.  Practicing the year before with Lorenzo Jerome (DB) and Nick Rinella to catch my punts.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Andrew Zecca:  Shows positive character when they win, but a true test of character is when you loose…how do you react.  How do you rise above and see the full picture.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Andrew Zecca:  Buying cars and flipping, finding homes & investments.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Andrew Zecca:  Continue training younger athlete’s in kicking and punting.  Pursue real estate and investing in properties.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Andrew Zecca:  Persistent, consistent, passionate, driven and reflective.
