RB Lexington Thomas (UNLV) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

RB Lexington Thomas (UNLV) Interview

Lexington Thomas
Running Back
UNLV

Ed Hunt:  What is the fastest 40 you have ever run?

Lexington Thomas:  4.34 last Friday.

Ed Hunt:  What is your best accomplishment as a track athlete?

Lexington Thomas:  I guess placing at state.

Ed Hunt:  Describe your overall experience at the NFLPA Bowl.

Lexington Thomas:  I would say it was a great experience.  I got to meet a lot of important people.  I would say role models.  It was a real learning experience.  A lot of information we took in.

Ed Hunt:  What is the biggest thing you took away from the NFLPA Bowl?

Lexington Thomas:  Being patient.  I came from UNLV and so I was the guy.  It was like going back to freshman year because everybody was good.

Ed Hunt:  Who is the best player you have faced at the NFLPA Bowl?

Lexington Thomas:  Javier Edwards, defensive tackle from Colorado.

Ed Hunt:  Who is the best player you have faced on an opposing team?

Lexington Thomas:  Myles Jack.

Ed Hunt:  Coming out of high school, which schools showed interest in you?

Lexington Thomas:  UNLV was my main school because I qualified late.

Ed Hunt:  What made you ultimately choose UNLV?

Lexington Thomas:  I had a real good connection with the running backs’ coach at UNLV.

Ed Hunt:  What are your strengths?

Lexington Thomas:  My speed, my vision and me just knowing the game.  I’m real football savvy.  I can adapt to things fast too.

Ed Hunt:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Lexington Thomas:  Blocking

Ed Hunt:  Describe your overall career.

Lexington Thomas:  It was a great experience.  My four years there I met my brothers now.  My best friends.  It’s more than football for me.  I had the touchdown record there, but I was focused on my relationships there.  I would say I had a great career if a lot of people want to interview me.

Ed Hunt:  What is the highlight of your career at this point?

Lexington Thomas:  I would say the San Diego State game.  Beating them was a big accomplishment for me.  I scored the game-winning touchdown.  That was one of the best feelings.

Ed Hunt:  I noticed you have great speed. What do you attribute this to?

Lexington Thomas:  It’s God-given and my track coaches in high school got me training.

Ed Hunt:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Lexington Thomas:  I learned as a running back.  I didn’t really learn too much.  I learned how to be more of a man than a football player.  More “after life” stuff.  It wasn’t just football stuff.

Ed Hunt:  Were you a four-year starter at UNLV?

Lexington Thomas:  I didn’t start my freshman year.

Ed Hunt:  Is there a role you have played on special teams thus far in your career?

Lexington Thomas:  Punt returner and kick returner in a game.

Ed Hunt:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Lexington Thomas:  I really don’t have one.  The team I used to like was the Jets.  After the last game, I quit that.  I didn’t want to be a Jets fan and then go to the Patriots.

Ed Hunt:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Lexington Thomas:  Tarik Cohen and Aaron Rodgers.  My all-time favorite players are LaDainian Tomlinson and Chad Johnson.

Ed Hunt:  What’s the most important trait for a running back?

Lexington Thomas:  I would say ball security.  I wouldn’t say there is a certain trait.  Every running back has their style.

Ed Hunt:  Before the ball is snapped, what tendencies are you looking for in that defense?

Lexington Thomas:  How the safeties roll down.  The roof is what we call it.  The defensive line.  The film tips it off.  Their bluff coverages and stuff.

Ed Hunt:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Lexington Thomas:  Armani Rogers, Darren Woods Jr, Justin Polu, Justice Oluwaseun, Jericho Flowers, Brandon Presley and Mekhi Stevenson.  Those are the leaders of our team.

Ed Hunt:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Lexington Thomas:  Having fun.  For me, it’s the only time you can hit somebody and not go to jail.  Football brings joy.  Seeing your teammates happy. I’m a big team guy.  Seeing teammates break records and stuff.

Ed Hunt:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Lexington Thomas:  I got two.  My mom and my brother.  My mom works hard and no matter what she is going to get it done.  She’ll do anything to make sure I’m okay.  My brother has always been there for me.  He is a model citizen.

Ed Hunt:  What is your definition of a leader?

Lexington Thomas:  Someone that’s dependable.  That you can always depend on.

Ed Hunt:  What do you want to do with your life after football?

Lexington Thomas:  Help inner-city kids out in Houston and Las Vegas.  And whatever NFL team I play on, just try to help the kids out the most.

Ed Hunt:  What five words best describe you?

Lexington Thomas:  Fast, funny, outgoing, spontaneous and amusing.

Ed Hunt:  Who will win the Super Bowl next year?

Lexington Thomas:  Probably whatever team that picks me up or go with the team that keeps winning, the Pats.  If they had me, they would win.
