-played a lot of press coverage

-stays in phase in coverage

-good cover corner

-good open field tackler

-went back to the Georgia tape and thought he did better than others are saying

 

Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia #2

-not very good instincts in zone

-decent open field tackler

-loose opening his hips

-great coverage coverage skills

-good ball skills

 

Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State #3

-ran a 4.47 40 at the combine to answer speed questions

-good at staying in phase in coverage

-very technically sound

-asked to blitz and support run at Penn State

-good ball skills

-fluid opening up his hips

 

Lonnie Johnson Jr., CB, Kentucky #4

-lined up in the slot and the outside

-stays in phase in coverage

-strong cover corner

-fluid hips

-average run/blitz supporter

 

Julian Love, CB, Notre Dame #5

-decent run supporter/tackler

-fast enough to disguise his coverage

-matched up against tight ends

-overmatched by bigger receivers (JJ Arcega-Whiteside)

-stays in phase in coverage

-good feet in coverage

-gets beat deep, needs better speed

-can help in run support

-seems to guess routes and gets beat

-has good potential but needs some coaching

 

David Long, CB, Michigan #9 (underrated)

-physical in coverage

-stays in-phase

-functions on the outside and in the slot

-asked to blitz

-needs to work on his ball skills

 

Jamel Dean, CB, Auburn #10

-average run supporter

-physical in coverage

-6’2 corner

-decent in coverage

-played press coverage against Jerry Jeudy

 

Overrated:

 

Iman Marshall, CB, USC (overrated)

-needs more physicality at LOS

-plays soft in coverage

-played outside and slot

-fluid opening up hips

-probably should try being a free safety

 

Trayvon Mullen, CB, Clemson (overrated)

-reads the play well

-needs to be more physical at LOS

-not so good in run support

-sometimes opens his hips too early

-plays soft coverage

 

Sleepers:

 

Jordan Miller, CB, Washington (Sleeper)

-press corner

-stays in phase in coverage

-only had to cover the #2 guy

-decently physical

-could get off blocks better in run support

 

Xavier Crawford, CB, Central Michigan (Sleeper)

-has some physicality at the LOS

-good ball skills

-played in the slot and the outside

-stays in phase in coverage

-asked to blitz and was successful at it

 

Clifton Duck, CB, Appalachian State (Sleeper)

-stays in phase in coverage

-can play in the slot and the outside

-awesome open field tackler

-didn’t play press coverage

-undersized and it shows on tape

-had a good game against Penn State

 

Kendall Sheffield, CB, Ohio State

-good open field tackler

-played outside and slot

-decent getting off blocks

-more of a tackle the catch guy in coverage

-better fit in the slot

 

Montrae Hartage, CB, Northwestern

-doesn’t stay in phase in coverage

-played outside but is more of a slot guy in NFL

-decent tackler in coverage

-fluid opening up his hips

-got lit up by Myles Boykin

 

Blace Brown, CB, Troy

-plays a lot of soft coverage

-needs to be a more willing run defender

-average open field tackler

-wasn’t exposed at Troy like he could have been

-average physicality at LOS

 

Corey Ballentine

-good speed

-kick returner

-lined up more in the slot

-played at senior bowl, but did not impress

-I see him as more of a special team’s demon

 

Hamp Cheevers, CB, Boston College

-needs to be more physical

-good staying in phase

-slot guy

-good in coverage

-decent physicality in run support

 

Isaiah Johnson, CB, Houston

-speedy but lacks acceleration

-tall 6’4

-seems to open his hips too early

-average in coverage

-can tackle

 

Kris Boyd, CB, Texas

-needs to be more physical at LOS

-soft in coverage

-willing to support the run

-played a lot of zone at Texas

-lined up in the slot and on the outside

 

Derrick Baity, CB, Kentucky

-plays tight coverage

-only had to cover a team’s #2 receiver

-needs to be quicker opening up his hips

-not much of a run supporter

-more of an outside corner

 

Jimmy Moreland, CB, James Madison

-ball hawk

-played in East-West Shrine Game and did well

-more of a slot guy

-undersized

-needs more speed in coverage

 

Sheldrick Redwine, CB, Miami

-willing run supporter

-lined up at CB, slot and FS

-good open field tackler

-decent in coverage

-good ball skills

 

Alijah Holder, CB, Stanford

-good run defender

-doesn’t stay in phase

-played in the box some

-maybe they should try him at strong safety

-can be a little handsy
