DB Jordan Preator (Weber State) Interview

Jordan Preator
Defensive Back
Weber State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Jordan Preator:  Height is 5’11 1/8, 203 pounds and 4.58 forty.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Jordan Preator:  I have been training with the strength and conditioning coach at Weber State.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you happy with the overall results from your Pro Day?  What were some of your numbers?

Jordan Preator:  I wasn’t completely happy.  I had 20 reps on the bench.  I jumped alright.  I could have gone further.  I had 37-inches on the vert and 10’10 on the broad.  We only got one chance in the three-cone and the pro agility drills.  I could have done a little better,

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Jordan Preator:  I talked to BYU, Utah, Utah State, Hawaii and Weber State.  It was mainly the local schools.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose BYU?

Jordan Preator:  Coach Hill was at BYU at the time.  He was watching me since junior high.  He was friends with my junior high coach.  I grew up a Mormon.  BYU offered me a full ride like Hawaii.  I felt like it was a good fit at the time.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you decide to transfer to Weber State?

Jordan Preator:  I had a few problems with the honor code.  I got caught having females and I was caught drinking a couple of times.  They gave me the option.  They told me that I can leave for a year and then come back or just go somewhere else.  My lifestyle didn’t fit the honor code.  One of the players at BYU became a DB coach at Weber State.  I lived with him at BYU.  DB coach to Weber State.  My head coach had a ton to do with it as well.  Coach Hill helped me get back on the right track.  He helped me reach my goals.  My little brother was also going to Weber State as well.  I wanted to play with him.  I am also from this area.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Jordan Preator:  I am smart.  I work hard.  I am athletic.  I am not scared to hit.  I am physical and I can cover really well.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Jordan Preator:  The biggest thing is cleaning up my footwork.  Sometimes I am good and sometimes I am not very clean.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career at Weber State.

Jordan Preator:  It was a big uphill battle for me.  I came in as a walk-on.  I had to earn everything.  The coach made me work for everything.  I had to sit out my first season.  I was lifting weights and I put on about 25 pounds.  I struggled my first semester.  I was adjusting.  Halfway through my junior season, I earned my scholarship.  I beat every dude at my position. I was on a full scholarship before I left.  There were games where I didn’t start.  My coach was holding me to a higher standard.  I played both safety spots my junior and senior year.  I played corner my freshman year at BYU.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Jordan Preator:  The biggest highlight was winning back-to-back Big Sky Championship.  All of the hard work that we put in and how we turned it around.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Jordan Preator:  Hard work always wins.  You get what you put into it.  Work hard and dedicate yourself.  Give it your all, and it would be a good outcome.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Jordan Preator:  I used to be a big Patriots fan.  I have no favorite team the last few years.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Jordan Preator:  Tyrann Mathieu.  Growing up, I also loved Tom Brady.  I admire how competitive he is.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DB?

Jordan Preator:  Discipline.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Jordan Preator:  I look at the formation, then at the personnel and the splits.  From film study you will know what they will run out of certain formations.  I also look at the stance of O-linemen.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Jordan Preator:  Freshman cornerback Marque Collins is crazy athletic.  RB Josh Davis won the Jerry Rice Award.  WR Rashid Shaheed has great hands and great speed.  Sam LB Auston Tesch is a big guy.  Jonah Williams has great size at DE. Adam Rodriguez is another DE.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Jordan Preator:  WR Emmanuel Butler.  I played corner that game.  I was covering him one on one.  He is a big, physical dude.  We didn’t do a lot of man coverage that game.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Jordan Preator:  It is fun.  I always liked going out and playing with my friends.  You see all of the hard work pay off.  See who makes the play.  I like the brotherhood and the game itself.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Jordan Preator:  I hang out with my girlfriend a lot.  I go to the gym and play video game.  Hiking, camping, basketball and board games.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Jordan Preator:  I want to do medical sales.  I got a degree in professional sales.  I am also big into technology and computers.  I might want to do programming and make an app.  Something along those lines.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Jordan Preator:  Loyal, dedicated, persistent, honest and unselfish.
