Best Day 3 Picks (2019 NFL Draft) - NFL Draft Blitz

Best Day 3 Picks (2019 NFL Draft)

2019 NFL Draft

DAY THREE

BEST PICKS

105th Overall Pick (4th Round) S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Florida) – New Orleans Saints

This is another good selection by the Saints.  They didn’t have a first-round pick, but they are making the best of this situation.  Gardner-Johnson is a versatile DB.  Despite being an undersized safety, he plays with a physical demeanor.  He is an instinctive player who excels in coverage.  He can line up as a nickel corner on obvious passing downs.  He has good closing speed and is a very effective blitzer.

108th Overall Pick (4th Round) CB Julian Love (Notre Dame) – New York Giants

The Giants reached for QB Daniel Jones with the No.6 pick, but they have been able to find good value at the cornerback position in this draft.  Love should have been drafted on day 2.  Despite not having elite speed, he is always around the ball due to his instincts and smarts.  He displays good backpedal and is able to mirror the receiver well.  He is willing in run support and is a good tackler.

149th Overall Pick (5th Round) WR Hunter Renfrow (Clemson) – Oakland Raiders

Renfrow was my favorite slot WR in this NFL Draft.  I am not surprised that Mike Mayock and John Gruden made this selection.  He displays terrific hands and outstanding short area quickness.  Despite being undersized and having average speed, he runs precise routes and creates consistent separation.  He is clutch on third down.  He will become a favorite target for Derek Carr.

168th Overall Pick (5th Round) LB D’Andre Walker (Georgia) – Tennessee Titans

His physical tools don’t really stand out, but Walker is a jack of all trades.  He was the glue guy for the Bulldogs’ defense.  He is a good open field tackler.  He is an effective blitzer who knows how to use his hands and is able to disengage from blockers.  He will be a 3-4 OLB in this scheme.

188th Overall Pick (6th Round) LB David Long Jr. (West Virginia) – Tennessee Titans

This is a major steal for the Titans in the sixth round.  Long is an all-around LB.  He is incredibly instinctive and smart.  He reads and reacts quickly.  He is a good open field tackler.  He is outstanding as a blitzer with fluid hips.  He was one of the better linebacker prospects in this draft class.

206th Overall Pick (6th Round) WR Kelvin Harmon (NC State) – Washington Redskins

The Redskins were desperate for more playmakers in the passing game for their newly acquired first round QB Dwayne Haskins.  Harmon was my favorite receiver in this draft.  He was projected as a day 2 pick who fell unexpectedly to the sixth round.  He is a physical WR with good size.  He is a good route runner who displays consistent hands.  He has good body control, leaping ability and excels as a blocker.  He will outperform Terry McLaurin who was drafted by the Redskins in the third round and should develop into a No.1 target in this offense.

254th Overall Pick (7th Round) TE Caleb Wilson (UCLA) – Arizona Cardinals

Wilson was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2019 NFL Draft.  But he should become fairly relevant in this offense very soon because the Cardinals lack any proven pass catching playmakers at the TE position.  He has outstanding speed and good hands.  He is able to create separation due to his quickness and displays the ability to create yards after the catch.  He also shows good effort as a blocker.  He is an extremely underrated player.
