Mason Kinsey
Wide Receiver / Berry College
Alex Khvatov: Tell me about Berry College.
Mason Kinsey: Berry College is a Division III school. It is in Rome, Georgia. It is good D-III competition. We won four straight Conference Championships there. We were 39-6 during four years. I had a lot of success at Berry. I have a lot of love for the school.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Berry?
Mason Kinsey: My first official offer was Mercer. I ended up getting the scholarship pulled by Mercer. I visited some D-II schools and some NAIA schools. Berry was actually the only D-III school that I visited. It was my last college visit. I ended up getting a work scholarship program there. I worked for my school since Division III doesn’t offer athletic scholarships. I worked full time in the summer. 20 hours in the spring and 20 hours in the fall. It helped me be debt free coming out of college. I went there for four years. I had a great time.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your career?
Mason Kinsey: Four straight conference championships. I came from a high school that didn’t win a lot of games. We won 3 games in high school. It was great to go to a winning college program.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Mason Kinsey: I am reliable. I will catch the ball. I play really hard.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite route?
Mason Kinsey: If I am in the slot, something vertical. I like stretching the field. If I am on the outside, I like the digs against many different coverages.
Alex Khvatov: You have a track background. How does that track speed help you on the football field?
Mason Kinsey: I ran track in high school my sophomore year. I didn’t run after that. When I came to college, I ran my sophomore year. I was on the 4×100 relay. We won the conference championship in the relay. I had a great time. First championship for the sprint team. It was exciting.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game do you need to improve upon this week?
Mason Kinsey: I just need to slow down and soak it all in. The competition level is higher. The first day was a little rusty. Just getting adjusted to the tempo, the speed and the length. As the weeks moves forward, I will get more comfortable in the offense.
Alex Khvatov: What one word best describes you?
Mason Kinsey: Hard-working.
