WR Jamari Hester (Jacksonville State) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

WR Jamari Hester (Jacksonville State) Interview

Jamari Hester
Wide Receiver /
Jacksonville State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Jamari Hester:  My recent height was 6’6 and 205 at the Tropical Bowl.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Jamari Hester:  I am training in Miami at a place called Tough training.  The guy who is the head of that facility has trained Calvin Ridley.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the 2020 Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL?

Jamari Hester:  Going to the Tropical Bowl, I have never seen so many D-I players and so many scouts.  New faces and new competition.  I had a fun time.  People were nice.  Coaches had a lot of tips.  It was a good experience.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the toughest CB at the Tropical Bowl?

Jamari Hester:  Memphis #8 CB (Chris Middlebrooks) was good.  He was on the other team.

Alex Khvatov:  You are playing in the Hula Bowl in Hawaii next week.  How are you preparing for that all-star game?

Jamari Hester:  Basically, I am working on my cardio.  I need to run through multiple reps consistently.  They will be focusing on the one on one’s and 7 on 7’s.  I need to handle it through the whole week.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Jamari Hester:  Coming out of high school, I was a 2-star TE.  I wasn’t big.  I was 6’2 ½ and 185.  The week before signing day, coach Nick Williams came down to the school.  He offered me my first scholarship.  I took it.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Jacksonville State?

Jamari Hester:  It was a very friendly place.  Genuine people.  I loved the atmosphere.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Jamari Hester:  My height.  You can’t coach that.  I can be a vertical threat.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Jamari Hester:  Working on my feet, getting faster and quicker in and out of breaks.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Jamari Hester:  They labeled me as a TE during my redshirt year.  I needed to gain the weight.  I wasn’t able to add the weight that I needed to play the position.  I switched to receiver.  They allowed me to make plays on the outside and in the slot.  I was a vertical threat.  We came together as a team.  We won conference championships.  We didn’t get the national championship, but they will get it this year.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from Jacksonville State next season?

Jamari Hester:  The coaching staff is changing up the workouts.  They are trying to change the whole process.  They should be great this year.  We definitely have the talent to go far.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Jamari Hester:  During my junior year, I caught my first game-winning TD against UT-Martin.  It was about 45 yards with seconds left on the clock.  The corner pressed me, but they were in cover 2.  The safety played over the top, but I beat him.  He was too late.  We were down one point.  We put together a game-winning drive.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Jamari Hester:  Being a first to get my college degree out of the four brothers.  I got my bachelor’s in arts and integrated studies.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from your coaching staff?

Jamari Hester:  Keep your head on straight and don’t let anything deter you.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Jamari Hester:  To be able to have memory loss.  Don’t let a drop bother you.  You get up and make the next play.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Jamari Hester:  Miami Dolphins.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Jamari Hester:  D.K. Metcalf.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Jamari Hester:  One guy is WR KJ Stepherson.  He transferred from Notre Dame.  He scored three TD’s in the last game of the season and was the newcomer of the week.  QB Zerrick Cooper.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Jamari Hester:  He played LB for Murray State last year (Quincy Williams).  He was drafted by the Jaguars last year.  He was the toughest opponent.  He flew around and made plays.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Jamari Hester:  The family atmosphere.  Being around the guys.  We are just a big family.  It is the best part about football.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Jamari Hester:  I like to hang out with friends, watch movies and play video games.  Staying away from the nonsense that is out there.  I have a good group of friends.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Jamari Hester:  I want to become a PE coach in high school.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Jamari Hester:  Competitive, tough, coachable, playmaker and considerate.

Alex Khvatov
