CB Jevaughn Codlin (Kansas Wesleyan) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

CB Jevaughn Codlin (Kansas Wesleyan) Interview

Jevaughn Codlin
Cornerback / Kansas Wesleyan

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Jevaughn Codlin:  5’9, 170lb and sub 4.4.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.

Jevaughn Codlin:  The expletive was amazing.  It was just a great opportunity to showcase what I can do in front of pro scouts.  I just love competing, and it was the perfect opportunity to compete in my home state and finally play in front of my family.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from that all-star event?

Jevaughn Codlin:  The biggest thing I took away from the weekend was the chance to build relationships with scouts and compete.  I love the fact that I got to go up against some of the best FCS players in the country and D2 athletes too.  It was a great opportunity to show that I can ball no matter what the level of talent is.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I had lots of interest and opportunities to play at several FCS programs and a couple FBS programs.  Schools such as Wagner, Stony Brook, FIU and Middle Tennessee to name a few.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Kansas Wesleyan University?

Jevaughn Codlin:  Any initial plans were not to go to an NAIA school, but I ran into some complications before signing day.  I found out I could receive any aid from the government, meaning no loans and no FASFA.  Every school did not want to deal with all the paper work that came with that, so I was left with nothing.  Kansas Wesleyan came along because my high school DB coach played there.  I told them my situation and they did not care.  They were willing to work with me and make something happen.  I made the decision to go there.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Jevaughn Codlin:  My strengths are I am a hard worker.  I’m consistent, and my work ethic is second to none.  I’m also a film junkie and just a huge student of the game.  My off man coverage is also one of my strengths because of my feet.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I am trying to improve my zone drops from the nickel position.  Just understanding where everybody else in the scheme fit.  I can also improve on driving harder through the hitch route and make a play on the ball.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Jevaughn Codlin:  My overall career was filled with ups and downs and tons of adversities I had to overcome.  I went from playing every game and starting every game since the freshman season to having my spot taken away my junior season.  I battled injuries throughout my career which ended up playing a role in me having some confidence issues on the field and just not playing like myself.  I needed to go through that in order to get back to the player I am and even better.  I came back senior year healthy and better than ever.  Played some of the best football of my career in my last season.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Jevaughn Codlin:  My highlight up to this moment is the joy of winning two conference championships back to back.  It was amazing to be able to turn a program around and win so many games.  It was a pleasure to be a part of that!

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I am not proud of an individual award or anything like that.  I am proud to be a champion, being able to win two KCAC championships in back to back years is the biggest accomplishment in my career.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DB?

Jevaughn Codlin:  The most important trait for a DB is confidence.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I don’t have a favorite NFL team.  I did not grow up playing football or watching it.  I’ve just grown to follow individual careers or I’ll follow a specific secondary.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Jevaughn Codlin:  Jalen Ramsey.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I first need to know where I am on the field, where the ball is and down and distance.  Then I move to formation and alignment.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Jevaughn Codlin:  OLB Charles Barnes III and WR Stevie Williams.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Jevaughn Codlin:  Darrion Dillard from Ottawa University.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I love making plays, that’s the fun part.  Changing the game and having fun.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I train, play Madden and hangout with my friends & family.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Jevaughn Codlin:  I would like to get into training athletes and be a mentor for young athletes and at risk kids.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Jevaughn Codlin:  Accountable, loving, leader, consistent and hardworking.
