DT Edgar Cerenord (Duke) Interview

Edgar Cerenord
Defensive Tackle / Duke

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Edgar Cerenord:  6’1 1/2, 300.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Edgar Cerenord:  Per4orm and D2D Performance.  Trainers are Nick Hicks and Mike Smith.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.

Edgar Cerenord:  My experience was good!  I got the chance to meet a lot of new people and also able to play with some of the best football players in the country!

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from that all-star weekend?

Edgar Cerenord:  For me, it was to try things that I have never done before.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Edgar Cerenord:  Wake Forest, Purdue, Duke, Miami, Tennessee, Arkansas, Pitt, Syracuse, UCF, Florida, USF, Stanford, South Carolina and Tulane.  Just off the top of my head.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Duke?

Edgar Cerenord:  My last best option at the time, but there was an aura about that place when I took my official visit.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Edgar Cerenord:  My IQ, my leadership ability, my “gears” ability to improve my game during the game.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Edgar Cerenord:  Pass rushing.  Before my Achilles rupture, I thought I was trending upward from the previous season.  The injury set me back really far.  2019 was for me to prove that I could play football at a high level again and I did that! And now I’m feeling better than ever have and learning from a legend Jason Taylor!

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Edgar Cerenord:  Lots of ups and downs!  I went through a bunch of coaching changes early in my career until Coach Albert arrived and changed our identity as “RushMen”!  We took that and ran with it as a top 25 defense in 2017.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Edgar Cerenord:  Too many to boil down to one.  I’ve played a bunch of big-time opponents, played in big games and won some of those game, but just being able to do all of that is a highlight in itself.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Edgar Cerenord:  Graduating from Duke University.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DL?

Edgar Cerenord:  Relentlessness.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Edgar Cerenord:  Aaron Donald.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Edgar Cerenord:  Depends from week to week and what I see on film.  If I find a ‘tell’ somewhere I’d tell the defense, so we could exploit it.  OL stances, formations, personnel sets and cadence.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Edgar Cerenord:  Deon Jackson, Damond P-Johnson and Chris Rumph II.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Edgar Cerenord:  Lamar Jackson.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Edgar Cerenord:  Forgetting about the rest of the world.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Edgar Cerenord:  Cooking, playing video games and hanging with friends.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Edgar Cerenord:  Own a few restaurants and a few other businesses.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Edgar Cerenord:  Genuine, tough, intelligent, different and determined.
