WR Aleva Hifo (BYU) Interview

Aleva Hifo
Wide Receiver – BYU

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Aleva Hifo:  5’10, 184 and 4.41 forty.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training?

Aleva Hifo:  I was training at Landow Performance in Denver, Colorado.  Now I am back in school at the training facility.

Alex Khvatov:  You conducted a Mock Pro Day recently.  How did you perform?

Aleva Hifo:  My broad jump was a 10’10, 37.5 on the vert, 4.14 shuttle and 7.09 in the 3-cone.  I did the testing at Landow Performance.  I was very happy with my forty and how I jumped.  I wish that I was faster in the shuttle and the three-cone.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the Hula Bowl all-star game?

Aleva Hifo:  It was good.  Being in Hawaii at the end of January.  I am glad that they brought this all-star game back.  It was good competition.  I went up against one of the corners from Utah and Georgia Southern.  I went up some good schools.  It was a challenge.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Aleva Hifo:  I had two offers coming out of CA, BYU and Nevada.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose BYU?

Aleva Hifo:  My family were big fans of BYU.  I had a cousin that played here.  I liked everything about the program.

Alex Khvatov:  Was it a smooth transition for you moving from DB to receiver in college?

Aleva Hifo:  I was recruited as a DB.  But I actually played WR, RB and DB in high school.  BYU asked me what position I wanted to play on signing day.  I told them that I wanted to play WR.

Alex Khvatov:  What was it like to play with your cousin LB Sione Takitaki on the same team?

Aleva Hifo:  We played together for two years.  It was good.  We actually played in high school.  I talked to him every day, and we lived together.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Aleva Hifo:  I am a faster WR coming from the slot.  I transition out of my breaks quickly and I am explosive with the ball in my hands.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Aleva Hifo:  Working on improving at the top of my routes.  At the next level, you will face a lot of man coverage and the DB’s are a lot smarter.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall career?

Aleva Hifo:  It went by very quickly.  After my mission, I came in and played right away.  I played on offense all four years.  My freshman year, we had the best record in terms of wins and losses.  We went 9-4.  It has been a roller coaster ride ever since.  We went 7-6 this past year and lost the last bowl game.  It hurt us, seniors.  I was happy with the decision that I made when I came here.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Aleva Hifo:  The win over Wisconsin.  It was one of the better games.  I had a lot of rushing yards.  They used on jet sweeps and it kept working.  I also threw a TD.  We upset a good team.  My cousin Sione Takitaki had a good game.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Aleva Hifo:  All of the wins.  There is no better feeling than winning in front of your home crowd.  Winning against USC my senior year.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the toughest opponent that you faced this past season?

Aleva Hifo:  Utah.  We saw them early in the season.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from your coaching staff?

Aleva Hifo:  For me personally, I had two offensive coaches and two receiver coaches.  I learned different aspects of the game from them.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Aleva Hifo:  The little details like knowing how to read defenses and locate the man in zone coverage.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Aleva Hifo:  I liked the Colts a lot because of the Peyton Manning era.  My family always rooted for the 49ers.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Aleva Hifo:  Kenny Stills and Brandin Cooks.  Cooks can stretch the field and has crazy ball skills.  Stills always gets open.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Aleva Hifo:  Eyes on the slot corner and locate the safety.  Lock on the field and it gets all quiet.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Aleva Hifo:  DT Khyiris Tonga has been an impact player since his freshman year.  TE Matt Bushman.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Aleva Hifo:  Utah nickel corner Guidry.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Aleva Hifo:  The environment.  My life has always revolved around football.  I love the game.  I want to play the game as long as I can.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

Aleva Hifo:  I interact with other people well.  I have a large family.  We have eight kids in my house.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Aleva Hifo:  I like to play video games.  I also like to do outdoor stuff like hiking and fishing.  I spend a lot of time with my family.  I am from North of San Diego.  My family moved here with me.  It is a lot colder in Utah than in CA.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Aleva Hifo:  My major was in exercise and wellness.  I want to be involved in sports.  I want to be a physical trainer.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Aleva Hifo:  Loving, hard worker, kind, determined and funny.
