WR Devon Bibbens (Lehigh) Interview

Devon Bibbens
Wide Receiver / Lehigh

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Devon Bibbens:  6’0, 195 and 4.5.

Alex Khvatov:  Where were training for the NFL Draft?

Devon Bibbens:  I was training at Test Football Academy.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL?

Devon Bibbens:  It was great to get an opportunity to play in front of scouts.  I felt the practices gave us a good chance to get reps and I felt I did a good job showcasing my ability.

Alex Khvatov:  You got invited to another all-star game.  Tell us about the Tropical Bowl.

Devon Bibbens:  The Tropical Bowl was another great experience.  I was able to show that I could consistently get open against some guys from bigger schools, which I know was a question before going in.  It just felt good to show that I can play with anyone and don’t fear competition.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Devon Bibbens:  Out of high school, I was primarily shown interest from MEAC and Patriot League Schools with Morgan State, Lehigh and Colgate being the three that became the final in my decision making process.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Lehigh?

Devon Bibbens:  I ultimately chose Lehigh because it offered me the opportunity to gain a degree from a university.  I would not have had the opportunity to earn one from without football.  I fell in love with the campus and the field.  On my visit, I loved the atmosphere and how my future teammates embraced me.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Devon Bibbens:  I think my strengths are my competitiveness, route running and football IQ.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Devon Bibbens:  I feel that I can run with anyone, but sometimes it’s knowing what the defense is giving you that’s really going to get you open.  You have to know what your QB is thinking too in order to be a reliable option on game day.  I want to improve on my feet and explosiveness every offseason as a receiver, but I really want to just be dangerous every time I touch the ball.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Devon Bibbens:  I’m proud of my career and the work I put in throughout.  Coming in as a DB and then switching back to receiver my sophomore year, I showed major improvement each year.  Wish I could have helped my team have a better outcome this past season.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Devon Bibbens:  There are a lot of great things we were able to accomplish at Lehigh, so I couldn’t really rank one at the top. The thing that will stick with me forever though is our offseason programs and how close I became with my teammates.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Devon Bibbens:  I’m proud of being able to attend the post season bowl games the FCS, and the Tropical Bowl.  I showed that I belong and I’m proud of that.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from your coaching staff?

Devon Bibbens:  The biggest thing I took away from my coaching staff is that you have to work for what you want.  Winning isn’t easy and if you enjoy the process and hold yourself and teammates accountable, you will build a winning culture.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Devon Bibbens:  Being reliable.  Getting open on key downs.  Catching everything and get yards after the catch, but protect the football.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Devon Bibbens:  The Pittsburgh Steelers.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Devon Bibbens:  He is retired, but Steve Smith.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Devon Bibbens:  I look for the leverage off the corner and how much space he is giving me and how this relates to the safeties.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Devon Bibbens:  Jaylen Floyd, Zaythan Hill, Jorge Portorreal.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Devon Bibbens:  I feel like Villanova had some really good defenses throughout the years.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Devon Bibbens:  Competing.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Devon Bibbens:  Music, basketball, design, and video games.
