DE/OLB Chris Favoroso (Duquesne) Interview

Chris Favoroso

DE/OLB / Duquesne

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Chris Favoroso:  6 foot 3 inches, 245 lbs and a 4.63 forty.

Alex Khvatov:  Where were you training for the NFL Draft?

Chris Favoroso:  I was training at Grossetti Performance in Pittsburgh.

Alex Khvatov:  Your pro day was canceled.  What were your goals for that day?

Chris Favoroso:  My goal was to run in the mid to low 4.5’s for my forty.  Also, personal goal of mine that I’ve been close to is broad jumping 11 feet.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.

Chris Favoroso:  The FCS Bowl game was one of the more fun experiences I’ve had playing football.  I felt since the level of competition was higher the better, I played.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from the Tropical Bowl all-star game?

Chris Favoroso:  The Tropical Bowl game was one of the best games I’ve ever played personally.  It was also a time I could compete against some of the best players in the country at the FBS level.  It forced me to play at my highest level.  I took full advantage of every rep over the weekend.  I wanted to be the best player on the field.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Chris Favoroso:  App State, USF, FAU, Western Kentucky, and Naval Academy were my biggest offers.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you transfer to Montana?

Chris Favoroso:  I transferred to Montana after my junior college season at Arizona Western.  From the beginning, I had a great relationship with the coaches.  I wanted to go to a school that loves football, and Montana has a great tradition.  I felt their defense was perfect for me playing as a stand-up hybrid OLB/DE.

Alex Khvatov:
How did you eventually wind up at Duquesne?

Chris Favoroso:  My coaches were unfortunately fired after my first season at Montana.  I was graduating at the same time, so I saw this as an opportunity to find a coaching staff I loved and a defense I fit into.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Chris Favoroso:  My biggest strengths come from growing up wrestling.  I’ve always been an extremely hard worker and always believed you’re going to get as much out as something that you put into it.  My pass rush is the strongest part of my game.  I have a quick first step coming off the edge.  My hands and leverage are my biggest strengths.  I can control my body and bend with balance.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Chris Favoroso:  I can get better dropping into coverage.  Early on in my career I did this a lot.  Then I moved to a true DE the last two years and that has limited me in the coverage game.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Chris Favoroso:  I’ve moved around quite a bit, but by doing this I have been able to achieve three degrees in the process.  The first two years of my career I played the positions that fit me best which is a wide 5.  My last two years of Duquesne, we have been plagued by injuries and have had to make changes to our whole scheme defensively.  This has forced me to play more of an interior lineman which is where the team needed me the most.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Chris Favoroso:  Playing at the FBS Tropical Bowl is the highlight of my career.  It was one of the few games I was able to play with FBS opponents and I felt like I was able to showcase my talents.  I racked up four sacks and five TFL’s in the game.  It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my football career.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Chris Favoroso:  My biggest accomplishment was winning the NEC Conference title my junior year.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DL?

Chris Favoroso:  The most important trait for a DL is their attitude.  You can have the best technique, but if you do not want to fire off the ball and be physical, you are going to get beat every time.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Chris Favoroso:  I was born in Philadelphia, so growing up I have always been an Eagles fan.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Chris Favoroso:  Clay Matthews is someone I’ve always looked up to growing up and someone I’ve always tried to emulate my game after.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Chris Favoroso:  I usually look at the offensive line’s stance.  I try to see were they are looking and which way they are leaning.  I try to predict if I am going to get a run or pass read based off their feet.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Chris Favoroso:  The toughest player my team had trouble shutting down was the QB for Dayton this year.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Chris Favoroso:  I enjoy being able to work on a craft.  The most satisfaction I get come from the small things.  Things like working on a new pass rush move in practice and finally hitting it in a game.  The camaraderie and relationships through the years have always been one of my things about the sport.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Chris Favoroso:  The best leaders are ones that have the ability to make their players buy in completely.  The most successful teams are ones were everyone is bought into the process.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Chris Favoroso:  My hobbies are hanging out with friends, working out, video games and going to the beach.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Chris Favoroso:  I want to start my own business that helps find homes for drug addicts and gets them back on there feet.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Chris Favoroso:  Hardworking, resilient, respectful, passionate and motivated.
