AFC West Grades

Denver Broncos

1-15 Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama

2-46 KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State

3-77 Michael Ojemudia, CB, Iowa

3-83 Lloyd Cushenberry III, C, LSU

3-95 McTelvin Agim, DT, Arkansas

4-118 Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri

5-178 Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forrest

6-181 Netane Muti, G, Fresno State

7-252 Tyrie Cleveland, WR, Florida

7-254 Derrek Tuszka, DE, North Dakota

The Broncos hit on their first-round pick Jerry Jeudy. There were rumors that the Broncos were going to trade up for Jerry Jeudy but staying put gave them a chance to make a lot of picks. KJ Hamler is only 5’9 but he can be a shifty route runner in the slot. Michael Ojemudia was a good press corner at Iowa. Albert Okwuegbunam ran a 4.4 at the combine and is 6’7 in height.

Grade: B-

Kansas City Chiefs

1-32 Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU

2-63 Willie Gay Jr., LB, Mississippi State

3-96 Lucas Niang, T, TCU

4-138 L’Jarius Sneed, S, Louisiana Tech

5-177 Michael Danna, DE, Michigan

7-237 Thakarius Keyes, CB, Tulane

The Chiefs had a disappointing draft. They took maybe the fourth-best running back in the draft class first at the end of the first-round. They took Willie Gay in the second-round who has off-the-field concerns. They bet on Lucas Niang in the third-round who I think he is overrated. The best pick they made was seventh-rounder Thakarius Keyes from Tulane.

Grade: D

Los Angeles Chargers

1-6 Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

1-23 Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma

4-112 Joshua Kelly, RB, UCLA

5-151 Joe Reed, WR, Virginia

6-186 Alohi Gilman, S, Notre Dame

6-220 KJ Hill, WR, Ohio State

The Chargers let go of Phillip Rivers early in the offseason, but they were rewarded by adding quarterback of the future Justin Herbert. They then added a great athlete in the middle of the defense in Kenneth Murray. Joshua Kelly was at the Senior Bowl and garnered the respect of Colorado quarterback Steven Montez. Alohi Gilman is a good pass defender, but needs some work in run defense. KJ Hill had a decent career at Ohio State.

Grade: B

Oakland Raiders

1-12 Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama

1-19 Damon Arnette, CB, Ohio State

3-80 Lynn Bowden Jr., WR, Kentucky

3-81 Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina

3-100 Tanner Muse, S, Clemson

4-109 John Simpson, G, Clemson

4-139 Amik Robertson, CB, Louisiana Tech

The Raiders surprised when they took Henry Ruggs as the top receiver in the draft. He does have a lot of potential in terms of speed and route running ability. Damon Arnette was another surprise as he was a good cover corner, but was in Jeff Okudah’s shadow. The 80th pick was an interesting one when they took Lynn Bowden from Kentucky. He was their quarterback, but will be converted to wide receiver. Bryan Edwards showed some things as a receiver, but I think third-round is a bit early to take him.
