NFC North Draft Grades
Chicago Bears
The Bears didn’t have a first round selection because of the Khalil Mack trade. In the second round, they drafted Notre Dame TE Cole Kmet and Utah CB Jaylon Johnson. Kmet is an athletic pass catching TE with good speed. Johnson could have been selected at the end of the first round if it wasn’t for his shoulder injury. Fifth rounder DE/OLB Trevis Gipson from Tulsa is an underrated pass rusher. Tulane WR Darnell Mooney was a good find in the fifth round. He is a deep threat with outstanding speed. He is also a good route runner.
Grade B –
Detroit Lions
Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah was selected third overall in the first round. He has the size, speed and athleticism. He was the consensus No.1 corner in this draft. Second round pick RB D’Andre Swift from Georgia has good speed and shows the ability to make the first defender miss. He is also an excellent receiver coming out of the backfield. Third rounder OLB Julian Okwara from Notre Dame gets reunited with his brother Romeo who also plays for the Lions. Ohio State OG Jonah Jackson in the third round is a good run blocker who needs to keep his pad level down. Sixth rounder DT John Penisini from Utah is an underrated selection. He is a very good defender.
Grade B –
Green Bay Packers
The Packers didn’t draft a single WR for Aaron Rodgers. Then they shocked everyone when they traded up and selected Utah State QB Jordan Love with their first-round pick. He has the size and arm strength, but his decision-making can be atrocious at times. Second round pick RB AJ Dillon from Boston College is a physical runner with good size and speed. But he needs to improve as a pass catcher and pass blocker. TE Josiah Deguara from Cincinnati was a reach in the third round. Packers drafted three offensive linemen on day three. Their best pick was Michigan OL Jon Runyan in the sixth round.
Grade C –
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings had 15 selections in the 2020 NFL Draft. They used a first round selection on LSU WR Justin Jefferson. He is a slot WR with good catching radius and is a precise route runner. They spent another first round selection on a CB from TCU Jeff Gladney. Mike Zimmer loves drafting cornerbacks in the first round. Second rounder OT Ezra Cleveland from Boise State will get the chance to start at LT during his rookie year. He is an athletic pass blocker with very quick feet. CB Cameron Dantzler from Mississippi State dropped to the third round due to a slow 40 time at the Combine. He has good length, instincts and quick feet. He played very well against SEC’s top WR’s in 2019. DT James Lynch from Baylor was a steal in the fourth round. The Vikings best selection on day three.
