DE Chad Kuhn (Slippery Rock) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

DE Chad Kuhn (Slippery Rock) Interview

Chad Kuhn
Defensive End
Slippery Rock

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Chad Kuhn:  I am 6’3, 240 and I haven’t been timed in a forty since high school.

Alex Khvatov:  How are you currently preparing for the 2020 season with no offseason training?

Chad Kuhn:  I was lucky enough to have access to the gym in my basement.  Then my brother moved out of the house and moved the gym set.  Since then my high school coach let me use his gym.  I have been working on my speed, agility, and conditioning.

Alex Khvatov:  Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?

Chad Kuhn:  I wrestled in high school in Pennsylvania.  I never made it to state competitions, but I was a pretty decent wrestler.  We had a good program.

Alex Khvatov:  What positions did you play in high school?

Chad Kuhn:  I was a varsity quarterback from freshman to senior year of high school.  I was recruited as a defensive athlete to Slippery Rock.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Chad Kuhn:  At the end of my recruiting, it came down to Clarion as a QB or Slippery Rock to play defense.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Slippery Rock?

Chad Kuhn:  Slippery Rock has a rich, winning history.  It was a no brainer to go there.  It was the right decision.  At first, I played OLB and then DE.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Chad Kuhn:  During the first camp, I played OLB on the scout team.  Then they moved me to DE.  During my redshirt freshman year, we had a talented team, but a very young defense.  We fell one game short of the playoffs.  We lost on the last play of the game at Kutztown.  As a sophomore, we came back as a team with QB Roland (Rivers) leading the charge.  Our offense was a powerhouse with Henry (Litwin) and Jermaine (Wynn).  We lost in the quarterfinals to Notre Dame College.  We beat them in the quarterfinals in 2019.  We lost in the semifinal game against Minnesota State.  I made first team all-conference and second team All-American in 2019.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Chad Kuhn:  Hustling and never giving up on the play.  Having a high motor.  I am a disruptive pass rusher.  I am an athletic guy.  I should run in the low 4.6’s.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Chad Kuhn:  I have to know what the offense will run before the ball gets snapped.  Having that mental edge.  I have to know the game better.  Becoming a better run defender.  Towards the end of the season, I was lighter.  I should close down gaps better.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Chad Kuhn:  Definitely, when we beat Kutztown this past year.  We solidified it by beating them and winning the PSAC title in 2019.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?

Chad Kuhn:  Be a physical and relentless player.  You have to be a machine out there.  Never stopping and playing as hard as I can.  You have to learn the X’s and O’s.  Learn quick and play fast.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Chad Kuhn:  Pittsburgh Steelers my whole life.  The stadium is 35 minutes away from my home.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Chad Kuhn:  T.J. Watt is the man.  He will be in the running for defensive player of the year.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?

Chad Kuhn:  OT Jake Tecak.  I go against him every day.  He is a stud.  Jermaine Wynn, Cinque Sweeting and Henry Litwin at WR.  On defense, we have grown together.  We have older guys.  Khadir Roberts is a lockdown corner and never gets beat.  S Dalton Holt, DL Jeff Marx and DE Garrett de Bien is a stud.  He is 6’3, 255 and he is known for his high motor.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Chad Kuhn:  #7 WR from Notre Dame (Marvelle Ross) and RB Jaleel McLaughlin.  WR Ardell Brown from Seton Hill.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DL?

Chad Kuhn:  You have to stop the run first and then get after the QB.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Chad Kuhn:  It is my favorite thing to do.  Being able to hit people and not get in trouble for it.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from Slippery Rock this upcoming season?

Chad Kuhn:  National Championship is the goal.  It is the focus.  We will get better each day and try to win it all.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

Chad Kuhn:  I try to be happy all the time.  Not worrying about much and just living life.  Going with the flow.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Chad Kuhn:  Fisherman.  I love it.  This is the best time of the year to catch bass.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Chad Kuhn:  A leader is someone who can be vocal or lead by example.  Someone who can be the best that he can be.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Chad Kuhn:  I want to pursue my degree in safety management from Slippery Rock.  It is a good career.  It is a profession rising with openings.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Chad Kuhn:  Strong, happy, dedicated, honest, and chill.
