WR Lonnie Moore IV (Monmouth) Interview

Lonnie Moore IV
Wide Receiver / Monmouth

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Lonnie Moore IV:  5’10, 175 and my last 40 in high school was a 4.45.

Alex Khvatov:  How are you currently preparing for the 2020 season with no offseason training?

Lonnie Moore IV:  Actually, I have a gym that I go to.  I live in South Jersey.  It is called Adrenaline Sports Performance.  We have NFL players and athletes training here every day of the week.  I lift and I do speed work.  I am ready for the season.

Alex Khvatov:  Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?

Lonnie Moore IV:  I played basketball.  I went to a high school to play basketball.  I was a PG.  Growing up, I also played football, baseball and ran track.

Alex Khvatov:  What positions did you play in high school?

Lonnie Moore IV:  During my sophomore year, I became a starter at WR.  I also played RB, cornerback, punt returner and kick returner.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Lonnie Moore IV:  Coming out, I had offers from James Madison, Temple, Army, Rhode Island and Maine.  I narrowed it down to JMU, Monmouth and Temple.  I wanted to go to JMU.  I was about to commit, but the whole coaching staff left for Texas State.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Monmouth?

Lonnie Moore IV:  I came on a visit.  Coaches wanted me to be here.  Monmouth players have gone on to the NFL from here.  It was a great opportunity.  It was close to home.  It was a chance to chase my dream.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Lonnie Moore IV:  During my freshman year, I split time.  During my sophomore year, I didn’t get many touches, but I started.  WR Reggie White was the All-American receiver.  I learned from him.  Last year was my breakout season.  The new OC was spreading the ball around.  I ended up tying the school record for most receptions in a season with 74.  I had over 1,000 yards and 11 total TD’s.  I was the all-purpose guy.  I had receiving TD’s, kick return TD and a rushing TD.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from Monmouth this upcoming season?

Lonnie Moore IV:  There are high expectations.  Monmouth is an up and coming program.  We are building the foundation.  Our next goal is to win the national championship.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Lonnie Moore IV:  Leadership and hard work.  I am dedicated to be the best I can be.  I am pushing those around me.  I bring speed and versatility.  I am a deep threat.  I can get the ball and make plays in space on jet sweeps, slants and screens.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Lonnie Moore IV:  Working on route running.

Alex Khvatov:  How much pride do you take in being a dangerous returner?

Lonnie Moore IV:  I absolutely love being a returner.  I am not one-dimensional.  I make plays all over the field.  I am a playmaker.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Lonnie Moore IV:  We played against Wagner last season.  It was their homecoming game.  We used to be in the same conference.  It was a battle.  It was a dog fight.  They fought us in the fourth quarter.  We were down by three points and drove all the way downfield.  With 20 seconds left, I bounced off the defender and scored a game-winning TD.  We ran a special play.  I started outside, came in motion, checked the DE, ran an out route, CB tried to blindside me and I ran it into the end zone.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?

Lonnie Moore IV:  Dedication and hard work.  Kids in high school don’t understand the dedication that you have to put it into this sport.  Take your foot off the gas, and you start to fall behind.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Lonnie Moore IV:  I am an Eagles fan.  I was born in Philly, but moved to South Jersey.  My whole family are Eagles fans.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Lonnie Moore IV:  My all-time favorite player is DeSean Jackson.  I feel like we play similarly.  We are deep threats and burners.  Steve Smith Sr. is another WR.  He showed that grit while he was on the field.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?

Lonnie Moore IV:  WR Terrance Greene had a big season last year.  S Anthony Budd made the all-conference first team.  DT Lorenzo Hernandez spent his freshman season at Villanova.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Lonnie Moore IV:  My sophomore year, it was CB Rock Ya-Sin.  He went to Presbyterian College before he transferred to Temple.  He is physical with size and fundamentally sound.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Lonnie Moore IV:  Catching the ball and route running.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Lonnie Moore IV:  I love to compete ever since I was little.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Lonnie Moore IV:  I like to hang out with family and my little nephew who two years old.  I also play video games

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
