Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Kahliq Muhammad: I am 5’10 and 180 pounds.
Alex Khvatov: How are you currently preparing for the 2020 season with no offseason training?
Kahliq Muhammad: The field never closes. I get my work out. I make sure that my feet are right. The gyms just opened back up. I was doing pushups to stay in shape. I went to Virginia to train with some trainers.
Alex Khvatov: Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?
Kahliq Muhammad: I played basketball. I didn’t start playing football until my freshman year of high school. I also did track. The high jump, 100m and 4x100m relay.
Alex Khvatov: What positions did you play in high school?
Kahliq Muhammad: I played strictly receiver. During my senior year, I also played safety, corner, punt returner, and kick returner.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Kahliq Muhammad: Coming out of high school, I had Montana and New Mexico State. I didn’t get it together in the classroom. I had to go to JUCO, but I still couldn’t figure out my grades.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at JUCO?
Kahliq Muhammad: Montana actually told me to go to JUCO, but then they fired the whole coaching staff. I went to Scottsdale Community College. Arizona had good football in the JUCO ranks. I could stay home and play in front of my family. Then I went to Urbana for a semester. They just shut down the football program. I played in three games. I had three TD’s and 350 yards. I also had 300 punt return yards, but I got injured. I had a bad ankle sprain.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you transfer to Clarion?
Kahliq Muhammad: I was actually supposed to walk-on at Northern Arizona. Then Clarion showed interest. I had the chance to play against good competition in the PSAC.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your junior campaign.
Kahliq Muhammad: We were not a mature team this past year. I was just scratching the surface and learning the game. I am still a bit raw. The junior year was my coming out party. I can’t wait to show what I could do during my senior year. I led the team in TD’s with eight. I was second on the team in receiving yards and receptions. I am an X receiver at Clarion, but I played the slot at Urbana.
Alex Khvatov: What can we expect from Clarion this upcoming season?
Kahliq Muhammad: We should be better. We have lots of JUCO guys that we brought in. We are a more mature and complete team. We didn’t have all of the pieces together. We are the underdogs, but we have the pieces to take over the conference this year.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Kahliq Muhammad: My competitiveness makes everyone better. I am a natural competitor. My route running. I can run any routes. My passion for the game.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Kahliq Muhammad: My knowledge of the game. Getting in and out of my breaks quicker and sharpening my route running. I am getting better. I am watching film every day.
Alex Khvatov: Do you take a lot of pride in being a punt returner for your team?
Kahliq Muhammad: I take a lot of pride in everything I do. Punt returning is a key part of the game. It can win you some games. I am trying to spread the message that special teams are important. It is an X-factor in the game.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Kahliq Muhammad: The game against Seton Hill on homecoming. I had three TD’s. It was a big game for me. The game showed me that I could do this on a regular level.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?
Kahliq Muhammad: Coach Newton always tells me to not let the emotions overtake the goal. I let that blind me at times. I get too wrapped up in a game. I need to control my emotions.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Kahliq Muhammad: My all-time favorite player was Steve Smith. I model my game after him. Now, I will go with Michael Thomas. His route running is crazy. He makes every route look the same.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?
Kahliq Muhammad: WR Quinn Zinobile was a true freshman last year. He is a 6’4, 215-pound slot receiver. First team all-conference RB Mylique McGriff. Transfer QB Kyle Knight will help us and WR Terrell Ford.

Kahliq Muhammad: The ability to get open. Knowing your angles, timing, and separation.
