Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Harrison Moon: Height is 6’4 ½ and 297 pounds.
Alex Khvatov: How were you preparing for the 2020 season with no offseason training?
Harrison Moon: I am training at Velocity Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. It is an O-linemen camp ran by Josh Richardson. We do on field training. Before I trained with my teammate Chris James, who had a gym at his house.
Alex Khvatov: Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?
Harrison Moon: It was just football year around for me. I trained in the offseason and put in the extra work from an early age. I stuck with football.
Alex Khvatov: When positions did you play in high school?
Harrison Moon: I played TE for the first three seasons. I played DE and OT during my senior year.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Harrison Moon: My first offer was UT-Chattanooga. James Franklin, when he was at Vanderbilt, gave me an offer. I also had Georgia Tech.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Mississippi State?
Harrison Moon: It was the best option for me. Coach Dan Mullen was great. It was the best fit. My best friend, QB Nick Tiano, went there. He just signed with the Texans.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your career with the Bulldogs?
Harrison Moon: It was a great learning experience. Coach Mullen runs a great program. He is a great football mind. Our strength coach got everyone better. I got to learn football from some of my teammates. I was playing special teams. Ultimately, I wanted to get on the field and be a starter on the O-line.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you decide to transfer to Chattanooga?
Harrison Moon: I am from Chattanooga originally. My best friend Nick Tiano transferred there the year before. It was my hometown, and they have great coaches.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your career at Chattanooga.
Harrison Moon: I started all 11 games my junior season as a RT. I learned a lot. I changed my workout routine going into the 2019 season. I started at RT the first four games of the season. Against James Madison, I tore my ACL. I petitioned for a redshirt year. I got a sixth year.
Alex Khvatov: How was your recovery process from the ACL injury?
Harrison Moon: When you get an ACL injury, you think your career is over. We have great athletic trainers. The rehab was great. It was a smooth process. I got cleared last month. It took seven months for a full clearance.
Alex Khvatov: What can we expect from your team this upcoming season?
Harrison Moon: We want to win the conference. We are a talented team with lots of veterans. We have good RB’s, a veteran O-line and great receivers. We are ready to win the conference this year.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Harrison Moon: I am an athlete. I am intelligent. I understand the game of football. We have one of the best O-line coaches in the country. He helps me in different ways.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Harrison Moon: I need to do a better job of imposing my will in the run game. It will help elevate my game.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Harrison Moon: As a team, the win against Samford. It was a conference game in 2018. They were ranked and they came to our home. It was a great game.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?
Harrison Moon: Coach Malone was at Old Dominion before. He also played at Virginia Tech. Coach Malone demands greatness. He does a great job teaching the game. He is a brilliant football mind along with the rest of the coaches here.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Harrison Moon: Taylor Lewan plays the game the right way. He is a mean and tenacious player. I like Tyron Smith from a technical standpoint. I like watching Jason Kelce and Frank Ragnow. They are fun guys to watch.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?
Harrison Moon: TE Chris James is a great player. WR Bryce Nunnelly is a phenomenal player with a great work ethic. RB Tyrell Price and LG Cole Strange. We have as much talent as anyone else.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?
Harrison Moon: I played against a lot of good players. Javon Kinlaw from South Carolina in 2018. At Chattanooga, it was my own teammate Isaiah Mack. He plays for the Titans now.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for an OL?
Harrison Moon: The mindset. It is a mental game. You need to move an individual from point A to point B.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Harrison Moon: You get to hit people, and no one says anything about it. If you are having a bad day, you can take it out on someone. You can be violent. You can’t do that anywhere else.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Harrison Moon: Hanging out with friends and fishing sometimes. I go out to eat and love working out.
Alex Khvatov: How important are academics to you?
Harrison Moon: It’s just as important as the game of football. Football will end at some point. You have to invest in yourself after football. You have to find something you are passionate about.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Harrison Moon: Last December, I got my degree in psychology. I am doing a double major in sports management. Coaching would be awesome. I would love to own an O-linemen type of gym or be a strength coach. I am passionate about the game and I want to be around it.
Alex Khvatov: What makes you unique?
Harrison Moon: My work ethic separates me from a lot of individuals. I work hard. It is a characteristic that is lost among some people these days. I am also an outgoing and happy guy.
Alex Khvatov: What five words best describe you?
Harrison Moon: Driven, determined, courageous, leader, and loving.
