RB Marvin Campbell (Ferris State) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

RB Marvin Campbell (Ferris State) Interview

Marvin Campbell
Running Back / Ferris State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Marvin Campbell:  I am 5’8, 205 pounds and 4.49 during my junior pro day.  It was the Lions and the Colts scouts who did the measurements during the spring.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you get ready for the 2020 season with no offseason training?

Marvin Campbell:  It is all about remembering the why at the end of the day.  I got my bachelor’s degree already.  I am here to play football and pursue a career at the next level.  We had weights and a rack put up in the teammates’ backyard, and I was working out there.

Alex Khvatov:  Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?

Marvin Campbell:  I played basketball my freshman year and ran track.  I was a sprinter.  I did the 100m, 200m and the relays.

Alex Khvatov:  What positions did you play in high school?

Marvin Campbell:  Corner, safety, kick returner, slot WR and RB.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Marvin Campbell:  I had interest from everyone in the GLIAC.  I didn’t know much about the conference.  I did my research.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Ferris State?

Marvin Campbell:  Ferris State had a winning history.  It is not too far and not too close from home.  It is about three hours from Detroit.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall career?

Marvin Campbell:  I am going into my sixth year here.  During my redshirt freshman year, I played a little bit.  I started in the playoffs when our starter got hurt.  As a redshirt sophomore, I tore my ACL.  I came back, and we got to the championship game in 2018.  We got to the semis in 2019.  This past season, it was the first year where I gained over 1,000 all-purpose yards.

Alex Khvatov:  What is it like to be a part of a championship caliber team every year?

Marvin Campbell:  Honestly, it is normal to me.  Our coach has a knack for finding winners.  I have never been on a losing team.  We are here to play football.  We want to win.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from your team this upcoming season?

Marvin Campbell:  See us hoisting up the trophy.  We have never won the D-II championship here at the school.  We lost a lot of guys, but we got transfers and younger guys.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Marvin Campbell:  I can play all three downs.  I can catch, run and block.  I can run inside the tackles and bounce it outside.  I split carries with the QB in our offensive scheme.  I am blocking about 50% of the game.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Marvin Campbell:  I am trying to improve my football IQ.  I try to watch more film and learn different tendencies.  I am also going back to the fundamentals.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Marvin Campbell:  I started as a redshirt freshman in the first round of the playoffs.  I had over 100 yards that game.  This past season against NW Missouri State, I had a career high in the playoffs.  I scored two TD’s and 150 yards on the ground.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Marvin Campbell:  I root for the Lions.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Marvin Campbell:  Adrian Peterson.  I always looked at him since I was little.  He runs tough, has great vision and acceleration.  He came back even better after his surgery like me.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Marvin Campbell:  The best player on an opposing team was Alex Briones.  I played against him in high school.  He was a QB.  He went to Central Michigan as a LB.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a RB?

Marvin Campbell:  You have to have quick feet, vision and toughness.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Marvin Campbell:  You join and share the same goal with your teammates.  You have fun.  You are trying to build relationships over time, sustain them and win.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Marvin Campbell:  I play video games.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Marvin Campbell:  My major was in marketing with a concentration in sales.  I want to go into sales.  I want to be self-employed.  I want to start my own athletic brand.  I am in the midst of it now.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Marvin Campbell:  Tough, hard worker, smart, relentless, and friendly.
