P Kane Bowen (Southwestern Oklahoma State) Interview

Kane Bowen

Punter / Southwestern Oklahoma State

Christopher Reiss: What are your measurements? (Height and Weight)

Kane Bowen: 6’1, 195 lbs.

Christopher Reiss: During this global pandemic, what have you been doing to prepare for the upcoming season?

Kane Bowen: What I do is I film myself punting three days a week and I go over that film and make adjustments as I go. I have also been doing home workouts like yoga and some simple body weight workouts. I also have a set of weights at home that I use a bunch. A few days a week when I am not punting, I am doing speed training.

Christopher Reiss: What schools showed interest in you coming out of high school?

Kane Bowen: Adams State put me on scholarship. A couple of other schools that showed interest were San Jose State, Bowling Green, Army, Western Washington, and Stanford.

Christopher Reiss: In high school, what other positions did you play besides being a punter?

Kane Bowen: I played defensive end in high school as well.

Christopher Reiss: In high school, what other sports did you play besides football?

Kane Bowen: I strictly stuck to football. At the high school that I went to, football was all year around.

Christopher Reiss: What are the expectations for Southwestern Oklahoma State?

Kane Bowen: What my coaches say all the time is win, graduate, and have fun. As a team, we want to take it game by game and grow together. The end goal would be to win our conference. I feel like we can.

Christopher Reiss: Is there anyone on Southwestern Oklahoma State that we should keep our eye out for this season?

Kane Bowen: WR D’Yonte Heckstall, DB Jalen Carr, WR Justin Bailey, and QB Myron Norfleet.

Christopher Reiss: How would you describe your overall football career?

Kane Bowen: My football career thus far has just been ground breaking. I have grown so much as a football player over the last few years, but what matters more to me is the growth I made as a man. Football turned me into the man that I am today. I could not be prouder of myself during these last few years.

Christopher Reiss: What is the highlight of your career?

Kane Bowen: My freshman year at Adam State against Colorado School of Mines. I averaged 62-yards per punt this game. In the game, I also had a 93-yard punt and a 73-yard punt. I punted the ball five times that game and four of those times went past the 20. That week, I was nominated for Division-II hero of the week and I won.

Christopher Reiss: What are some strengths of your game?

Kane Bowen: My hang time.  I am able to put the ball left and right. I can kick with or against the wind, due to the town that I grew up in really helped me punt the ball where you need to put it. Another one of my strengths are my communications skills. I am very vocal on the field to my teammates on where the ball is going to go. Most of the specialists this year are freshmen. I have to be a leader off the field too.

Christopher Reiss: What are some assets of your game that you are trying to improve?

Kane Bowen: I am my biggest critic. I want my technique to be perfect every time I punt. I want to be as consistent as I can be. I know when I am an inch off, and the ball does not do what I want it to do.

Christopher Reiss: What do you enjoy most about football?

Kane Bowen: The relationship that you build with your teammates. You build relationships with people that come from different backgrounds. The coolest thing about playing football is having everyone come together to achieve one common goal and win.

Christopher Reiss: What are you majoring in?

Kane Bowen: My degree is in business management.

Christopher Reiss: What does life after football look like for you?

Kane Bowen: The main goal is to be a punter in the NFL. If I come short of that, I would like to be a proud business owner or franchise owner one day. But before I can become a business owner, I would like to work with my dad to get enough wealth before going and doing my own thing.

Christopher Reiss: What or who motivates you?

Kane Bowen: Most importantly, I am self-motivated! My parents have a key part for my success, especially my father. He has been the best coach for me. My girlfriend also keeps me motivated as well. My parents have done a bunch for me. When I make it one day, I want to give back to my parents.

Christopher Reiss: Is there a player that you look up to that plays in the NFL?

Kane Bowen: Brett Kern for the Tennessee Titans.

Christopher Reiss: What is your favorite NFL team?

Kane Bowen: I am a New York Giants fan from birth.

Christopher Reiss: Who is your favorite NFL of all time?

Kane Bowen: Brandon Jacobs, former RB from the New York Giants.

Christopher Reiss: What are some hobbies of yours?

Kane Bowen: I am always working out, but when I find time I like to play some Call of Duty Warzone with my teammates.

Christopher Reiss: On game-day, what is your go-to artist?

Kane Bowen: Biggie Smalls.
