Charles West

Running Back / Missouri Southern

Ed Hunt: What are your measurements? (Height, Weight and 40 time)
Charles West: I’m 5’10, 200 pounds and I run about a 4.3.

Ed Hunt: What has happened to your training due to COVID-19?
Charles West: I just isolated. I had to be in a mindset where I was ready to train for the upcoming season.

Ed Hunt: What are the expectations for the Missouri Southern State team in 2020?
Charles West: Last year wasn’t the best. I believe there should be a big turnaround with how much effort we are putting in.

Ed Hunt: What is the biggest strength of this Missouri Southern State team in 2020?
Charles West: I would say we have a lot of great athletes that you won’t see in this conference, and we’re getting ready to play some ball.

Ed Hunt: What schools were interested in you out of high school?
Charles West: I probably got about 20+ programs. I had a bunch of big time offers. Utah was one of the them.

Ed Hunt: What made you pick Garden City Community College out of high school?
Charles West: Well, it wasn’t my first choice to go there. I am not the same person I was when I was 17. I am a better person now and I got two college degrees and glad that I went to Garden City.

Ed Hunt: Why did you transfer to Missouri Southern State?
Charles West: Well I know, coach Sims achieved a lot of great things. I have a lot of belief in coach Sims and I’ve seen it happen a lot of times.

Ed Hunt: What is your biggest sport outside of football?
Charles West: I really love basketball. If I was 6’6, I would be a basketball player.

Ed Hunt: What is your biggest accomplishment in that sport?
Charles West: I would say back in high school, there was me and another guy and we had a battle of who could dunk in a game. We both have never done it and we’re both 5’10.

Ed Hunt: What are your strengths (on the football field)?
Charles West: I would say my biggest strength is my speed.

Ed Hunt: What are you working on as far as weaknesses?
Charles West: I feel like my biggest weakness is my strength. I’m in the weight room every day trying to get it better. The other one is my feet.

Ed Hunt: What was the highlight of your career?
Charles West: I would say going undefeated. I’ve been undefeated, but never been to the big game.

Ed Hunt: What is your biggest accomplishment in college?
Charles West: Definitely, getting a college degree. Where I came from, I never thought I would get a college degree. It was never my mindset as a kid to be a college graduate.

Ed Hunt: What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?Charles West: Just how to persevere. Sims is the type of guy who will push you to your limits. Playing for coach Sims, you will learn if you love this game.

Ed Hunt: What is your favorite NFL team?
Charles West: I’m from Dallas. I have a thing for the Cowboys.

Ed Hunt: Who is an NFL player you model your career after or watch tape on?
Charles West: My favorite running back is Le’Veon Bell. I love Saquon Barkley and the way he jukes too.

Ed Hunt: What is the most important trait for a running back?
Charles West: I would say being versatile because I feel like that’s how the game is going today. There’s a lot more spread going on. You have to be able to catch the ball.

Ed Hunt: Before the ball is snapped, what tendencies are you looking for in the defense?
Charles West: I’m looking at the movement of the linebackers. Also, the d-linemen shifts, so I can see the hole before the play.

Ed Hunt: What players from your team should we keep an eye on for next year whether it be seniors or underclassmen?
Charles West: I’d say Jamie Tago, Dwayne Lawson and Bryan Boyd.

Ed Hunt: Who is the best player you have faced on an opposing team?
Charles West: The best player I’ve played is Jamal Adams back in high school. He was already knocking guys off.

Ed Hunt: What do you enjoy most about football?
Charles West: I just enjoy just being on the field. It’s my passion. It’s my getaway. It’s my first love.

Ed Hunt: What makes you unique?
Charles West: I would say the playmaking ability. Just being able to make something out of nothing.

Ed Hunt: What are your hobbies?
Charles West: I love to be outside fishing. When I’m back home in Texas, I go to the lake a lot and all we do is go fishing.

Ed Hunt: What do you want to do with your life after your football career?Charles West: I’m a broadcasting communication major.  It’s always been my dream to be a sportscaster.
