Christopher Reiss: What are your measurements? (Height and Weight)
C.J. Brewer: 6’2, 280lbs.
Christopher Reiss: During COVID-19, what have you been doing this offseason to prepare for the upcoming season?
C.J. Brewer: I live in Georgia. Back home, I have a trainer that I have been working out with. We do from speed and agility to working on my form. When I am not training with him, I am doing home workouts as well. I have also been hitting the film room really hard lately.
Christopher Reiss: When breaking down film, what should stand out?
C.J. Brewer: I always watch the offensive linemen stance. I watch if he is heavy handed or if he is relaxed. I also look at his eyes. If he is looking around, he could be pulling to that side. When I am done reading the guard, I look at the formation and mainly I look for the tight ends and the running back.
Christopher Reiss: Coming out of high school, what schools showed interest in you?
C.J. Brewer: Troy, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Marshall, and Jacksonville State are the main ones that talked to me.
Christopher Reiss: In high school, what other positions did you play besides defensive line?
C.J. Brewer: In high school, I actually never played defensive line. I played inside linebacker and offensive guard in high school.
Christopher Reiss: In high school, what other sports did you play besides football?
C.J. Brewer: In high school, I played basketball all four years. I actually scored over a 1,000 points in high school. I played tennis to work on my hand eye coordination and it helped. The last sport I did was track and field. I ran the big boy relay race and also threw shot put.
Christopher Reiss: What are the expectations for the team for this upcoming season?
C.J. Brewer: We have really high expectations this season. The goal of this season is to win the Sun Belt, if we do that we have a very good chance to get to a good bowl game. We have a bunch of upperclassman this year that I feel like we have a chance to surprise a lot of teams this season.
Christopher Reiss: Is there anyone else on Coastal Carolina that we should keep our eye out for this season?
C.J. Brewer: DE Tarron Jackson, DE/OLB Jeffrey Gunter, LB Silas Kelly, S Enock Makonzo, QB Fred Payton, QB Bryce Carpenter, RB CJ Marable, and TE Isaiah Likely.
Christopher Reiss: How would you describe your overall career?
C.J. Brewer: My overall college football career has had its ups and downs. We have had some really good players come to Coastal Carolina, then transfer schools and we have also had coaching changes a bunch. I like to stay positive, I think we can be good next year and I hope we put Coastal Carolina back on the map.
Christopher Reiss: What is the highlight of your college football career?
C.J. Brewer: My redshirt freshman year. It was my first game of the season. Our edge rusher did a bull rush and I was able to get around my defender. I hit the quarterback and did a strip sack. The ball came out, and the best friend on the team picked up the ball. It was my first game, and I was making plays. That is something that I will remember for the rest of my life.
Christopher Reiss: What are some assets of your game that you are trying to improve on?
C.J. Brewer: My physical traits are good. I just want to become more knowledgeable of the game. One thing that I was able to do this offseason with my buddy was to go on that zoom call with the NFL’s best pass rushers. My buddy and I were locked in and listening to everything they said. I want to be knowledgeable like them when I am in the NFL. Some of the things that they said just blew my mind. Another thing that I have been trying to improve on has been my diet and my nutrition. Once I get those two things mastered, I will be the best player that I can be.
Christopher Reiss: What do you enjoy most about football?
C.J. Brewer: I love to be able to let loose and play the game that I love. I love to go out there and have fun and win some games. When I am out on the field, I just feel free. I have been playing this game since I was a young man. This game will always be a part of me.
Christopher Reiss: What are you majoring in?
C.J. Brewer: My major is in history with a minor in African studies. I am currently working on getting my master’s degree. Education in my family is very important to me, with my mom being a principal at a school.
Christopher Reiss: What does life after football look like for you?
C.J. Brewer: The main goal is to be in the NFL and play as long as I possibly can. If that does not work, then I would love to become a college coach and hopefully have a chance to coach in the NFL. I have sat down with my coaches and asked them like what to do and how to become a coach. I want to coach defensive line.
Christopher Reiss: What or who motivates you?
C.J. Brewer: My mom and my sister motivate me. I see how hard they have to work and I want to be able to do something about that. I want to make their lives different just not my own. I work so hard every day, so they can enjoy life every day and not have to work like they are right now.
Christopher Reiss: Is there a player in the NFL that you look up to?
C.J. Brewer: I would have to say the Jets DL Quinnen Williams and Rams DL Aaron Donald. They are players that I model my game around.

C.J. Brewer: The Atlanta Falcons.
Christopher Reiss: Who is your favorite football player of all-time?
