LB Christian Albright (Ball State) Interview

Christian Albright

Linebacker / Ball State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Christian Albright:  Height is 6’2 and weight is 238.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you prepare for the 2020 season with no offseason training?

Christian Albright:  I was home from March to the middle of June.  I was working out with friends and going to the field.

Alex Khvatov:  What positions did you play in high school?

Christian Albright:  I played LT on offense from my freshman to junior year.  My senior year, they moved me to DE.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Christian Albright:  I was committed to UNC Charlotte.  Army showed interest as well.  I only played defense my senior year.  Ball State offered me after my senior year.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Ball State?

Christian Albright:  They came around in the middle of December.  I took an official visit.  I had a great feel for the current players.  Everybody was close to each other.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Christian Albright:  I played DE my true freshman year.  We ran a 4-3 defense.  We were thin at every position.  We had lots of injuries.  I started the last three games.  It was a rough year.  We went 2-10 that year.  We switched to a 3-4 defense next year.  I switched to OLB.  It was my first year playing LB.  It was my first time dropping into coverage.  I had 5.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.  I earned third team All-MAC that year.  Last year, we went 5-7 as a team.  We had some struggles late and missed on the bowl game.  I improved in the run game.  I have been working on my pass rush.  I became more of a complete LB during my junior season.  I got a grasp of what I am doing in coverage.

Alex Khvatov:  The fall football season in the MAC has been cancelled.  What are your overall thoughts on this situation?

Christian Albright:  It definitely hurts.  We have put in a lot of hard work in the offseason.  It was all taking away from us.  They are talking about playing next spring.  We will stay prepared.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Christian Albright:  I have a high football IQ especially in the run game.  I do a good job with my technique and hand placement.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Christian Albright:  I definitely need to improve on my pass rush and open field tackling.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Christian Albright:  We got a victory against Toledo during our homecoming in 2019.  Homecoming hasn’t been too bright of a spot for us during the previous years.  We were just clicking that game on defense, offense and special teams.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?

Christian Albright:  Being more of a man and taking more responsibility.  You come to college, it is all on you now.  They taught me accountability and responsibility.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Christian Albright:  I am a Falcons fan.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Christian Albright:  My favorite player is Julio Jones.  He is the best receiver in the game.  As far as defensive players, Von Miller and Chandler Jones.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?

Christian Albright:  #0 DL Chris Agyemang is a grad transfer from Sacred Heart.  #5 safety Bryce Cosby, #21 CB Antonio Phillips, #6 LB Jaylin Thomas, and #7 LB Brandon Martin.  #11 WR Justin Hall, #2 RB Caleb Huntley, #9 QB Drew Plitt, and #62 OL Curtis Blackwell is a really good player.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Christian Albright:  #77 OT Caleb Jones from Indiana.  I faced him last year.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a LB?

Christian Albright:  Knowing the playbook.  You have to know what the whole defense is doing.  You need to have a high football IQ.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Christian Albright:  Going out with my teammates on Saturday and playing with my brothers.  Putting in the work.  There is lots of work behind the scenes.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

Christian Albright:  I am a genuine and caring guy.  Anyone can talk to me about anything in life.  I am a good guy to come to.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Christian Albright:  I was on a leadership council last year.  We had nine players that were elected.  I am on the council again this year.  A leader is somebody that young guys can come to and talk to about football, school and life wise.  A guy they can rally around.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Christian Albright:  I like relaxing.  I am not an outdoor guy.  I watch Netflix and play video games.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Christian Albright:  My major is in psychology.  I want to stay around sports.  Maybe get into sports psychology.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Christian Albright:  Hard working, humble, leader, God-fearing, and genuine.
