Player Report – Week 12
Junior RB Jaret Patterson (Buffalo)
Patterson rushed for a school-record 301 yards and scored four TD’s in the win against Bowling Green. He broke his own record of 298 yards on the ground set against the Falcons last year. He is a very tough back for his size despite being 5’9 and 195 pounds. He is hard to bring down and runs through arm tackles. He finishes his runs regularly. He is a workhorse and tends to get stronger as the game wears on. He lacks breakaway speed, but he is more quick than fast. He displays extremely nimble feet. He likes to use a lot of jump cuts and can make defenders miss in tight space. He is clearly the driving force offensively for Buffalo this year as he tries to lead them to a MAC Championship.
Senior WR D’Wayne Eskridge (Western Michigan)
He played WR early in his career, but then made the switch to CB last year. He missed most of last season with an injury. This year, he has transitioned back to WR. He has been on fire through the first three games of the season. Against Central Michigan, he caught four passes for 212 yards and scored three TD’s. Eskridge averaged 53 yards per catch. He is an explosive player with the ball in his hands as a receiver and as a kick returner. He is absolutely electric with the ball in his hands. He has outstanding speed (runs in the low 4.3’s). Speed is his greatest asset. He is a dangerous deep threat, but he can also take a short slant all the way to the house. He just received an invitation to the Senior Bowl and has a chance to raise his draft stock during that week in Mobile, AL.
Senior QB Dustin Crum (Kent State)
Dustin Crum completed 88% of his passes for 348 yards and three TD’s in a win against Akron. He is only in his second year as the starting QB, but he has improved his game as a senior. He is a dual threat QB who takes care of the ball. He is not an elusive guy, but he is an efficient runner. He is accurate and makes good decisions. He throws with good touch.
Junior OLB Jeffrey Gunter (Coastal Carolina)
He started his career at Coastal Carolina and had a good year in 2018. Then he transferred to NC State for a year where he didn’t play. Gunter had a change of heart and transferred back to the Chanticleers in 2020. Against Appalachian State, he recorded eight total tackles, 2.5 TFL’s and 1.5 sacks. He plays the Bandi position. He has a good frame (6’4, 260 pounds) and long arms. He shows good speed, quickness off the edge and active hands.
Senior DL C.J. Brewer (Coastal Carolina)
Against Appalachian State, Brewer recorded 14 tackles, three TFL’s and 1.5 sacks. He had a dominant second half. He was a big reason why the Chanticleers beat the Mountaineers on Saturday. He was disruptive in the backfield and blew up a number of run plays. Despite being undersized (6’2 and 280 pounds), his quickness off the ball stands out on film. He also shows the ability to disengage from blockers very quickly.
