Scouting Blog – OT Cole Van Lanen (Wisconsin) Player Spotlight

Cole Van Lanen, LT, Wisconsin

The Senior has been a staple of the offensive line. He has great technique and shows an advanced understanding of how to play the position. He is more of a zone blocker who knows how to angle as a run blocker. He is more of a zone scheme blocker, but has the power and capability to play in a gap scheme. The part of his pass blocking that I like the most is his awareness. Stunts don’t work on Van Lanen. He has good anticipation and footwork as a blocker from the blind side. As far as weaknesses, I would say he could be a bit more athletic in the way that he squares up the defender. I would say his footwork is decent but not elite. I would grade Van Lanen as an early second round pick. He is more of a safe pick, but he does not have the upside because he is already polished and isn’t an elite athlete.
