2021 was the biggest year for you as a JayHawk, what went differently for you? “It was a whole different coaching staff. I adjusted to what they had going on. I just trusted them. I played my role and it went good for me.”
Each year you have gotten progressively better, what has been the most important factor in bettering yourself? “Just working in the offseason. I always see something I can improve on. Knowing what I’m trying to work on will help me in the long run.”
What have you loved most about your time playing for the Kansas Jayhawks? “I love the relationships I have made from being here. I love the campus and the things that come with it. Of course the basketball team, it’s just a great area and a great place to be in.”
What does it mean to be a former walk on, now turned Kansas star? “It shows how I worked in the offseason and midseason, did all the little things and it paid off. I feel like work speaks for itself.”
How was the Pro Day? “It went real good. I trained in Florida, it was a good facility I was at. They helped me out a lot. Leading up to the Pro Day I knew what I was trying to do, and I feel like that went well.
What is your drive and motivation to get up everyday and to be the best you? “I really just have a real love for the game. I know where I want to get to and I know what comes with it. You can’t shortchange the game, so I just keep working.
You are an academic all big 12 recipient and have been nominated for the wuerffel trophy, that’s a very impressive off field feat. What do these academic achievements mean to you? “It was good to show I can work on the field and work in the classroom too. It’s deeper than football, a student athlete, and you know they student first.
What is unique about you as a wide receiver? “I run really crisp routes and I know how to get open in any coverage. I got really nice hands, and can do a lot of things with the ball in my hands. I can be used on special teams as well.”
What are you working on improving in your game? “I want to be more explosive. That will help with the ball in my hand and help with route running.”
Is there a player you try to model your game after? “No, because I liked Michael Vick and Ladanian Tomlinson, and they aren’t receivers. I loved watching them play as a kid. And of course my Dad.”
What has been your best in game memory? “A good one is that last win in Texas this last season. Real good game with overtime. You can’t ask for much better than that in my opinion.”
What are you going to miss most about playing for Kansas? “The university of course. I’ll miss a lot, ill miss the work that comes with it. But I still plan on playing football, so the work doesn’t stop there. “
What player or players at Kansas do you think are ready to take off or break out in the 2022 season? “Kwinton Lassiter on defense, I got Kenny Logan, Jalen Daniels, and there’s a lot of sleepers in the receiver room. Playmakers.”
Was your father your inspiration for playing football? “Yeah I was always around the game and had brothers to play with growing up. We were never forced to play, but we always wanted to. I fell in love with the game real young.”
It is no secret that your father was quite the football player, and an even better teammate and person. What does it mean for you to follow his footsteps? “It’s a great feeling. This is my dream growing up. Just to be able to say I’ve done some of the things I’ve done, and put my name in the same into some of the records at this school that he did too.”
What hobbies do you have outside of football? “I was always with my little brothers outside. We lived in a place we could play baseball and football in the street. We were just always outside.”
What makes a great teammate in your opinion? ”Someone that leads by example. Everyone works hard at this level, but someone that does extra. Somebody you can trust on the field and in the locker room. Someone who approaches the game like a true professional. That’s who I want to learn from.”
How did you handle the pressure of gameday? “That’s the easiest day in my opinion. Since I love the game so much, that’s the best part of the whole week.”
If you could say one thing to the world, what would you say? ” I would shout my family out.”
What has been your greatest achievement in your opinion? “I got through all of college with no major injuries. I took great care of my body, going 5-6 years without any injuries is something to be proud of. And trying to take tha to the next level of course.”
