Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer Declares for 2023 NFL Draft

Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer as informed ESPN that he is declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer has reportedly informed ESPN that he will be declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft, per Pete Thamel’s report. Mayer is the undisputed top tight end prospect in the draft and should be taken within the first twenty picks. He will be skipping the Gator Bowl appearance against South Carolina.

Michael Mayer

TE – Notre Dame Fighting Irish

HT: 6045
WT: 251
Year: Super Sophomore
High School: Covington Catholic (Alexandria, KY)
Rating: 4-star (0.9833)

Projected Draft Grade: Immediate Impact

Projection: 1st Round

Mayer has been incredibly productive throughout his entire career, hauling in 180 passes for 2099 yards and 18 touchdowns. He posted a career-high nine single-season touchdown receptions in 2022, playing the entire season with a backup quarterback, Drew Pyne.

His NFL translation should be short and sweet. Mayer has all of the prototype tools and the hulking frame to become a monster in the NFL inside of twenty yards past the line of scrimmage. I don’t think that Mayer will be a player used so much to stretch the field as he will be to catch passes underneath and serve as a security blanket for the quarterback.
