2023 Tropical Bowl Scrimmage Day Two Scouting Notes

The final day of the Tropical Bowl Scrimmage is in the books! almost 100 players duked it out on the field this morning and into the early afternoon, showcasing what they can do. Be sure to check out my first day of notes, where I won’t be repeating the names that I mentioned yesterday.

Let’s get into some of what happened today.

  • Austin Peay running back Joshua Samuels busted a 75-yard touchdown run on the first play of the scrimmage and then scored after the halftime break on a receiving touchdown into the flat in the red zone. He flashed both days, taking positive instruction from coaches for his route-running and showcasing his abilities as a receiver.
  • All of the quarterbacks had good stuff to say about New Hampshire wide receiver Sean Coyne, who did an outstanding job working through routes, especially underneath. The former kicker in high school was originally recruited to New Hampshire to kick, after hitting a 58-yard field goal in high school, but moved to slot receiver to better utilize his athleticism.
  • Auburn defensive end Marcus Bragg, a transfer from Western Kentucky, certainly flashed some skills and athleticism on the field. His body is excellent as well and should have some attention as an undrafted free agent.
  • Stoney Brook safety Carthell Flowers-Lloyd played cornerback today and didn’t look bad, a position he hasn’t played since high school. He’s a good athlete, physical, and level-headed, playing with calm composure at all times.
  • Southern Mississippi slot cornerback Natrone Brooks had a good day too, showing that he’s a scrappy athlete who isn’t afraid to contest the catch point. I heard some scouts like him as a punt returner as well, which adds some value to a potential NFL team. Brooks may receive a late invitation to the NFLPA Bowl.

It’s always good to see “The Czar of the Playbook” out on the field, Mr. Emory Hunt, who does fine work on his YouTube channel, Football Gameplan. If you’re not already subscribed to that channel, you need to be. Here are the plays from the scrimmage;
