Mark Evans II played left tackle at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but looks to fit better as a guard at the next level. As crazy as it sounds, he needs to add more weight to his frame. He has the skill set to hold up at the next level and is smart too. Evans is a major in Biology. His brother, Jessie, plays football at Prairie View A&M.

As a five season starter, Mark Evans has a lot of experience. That is very valuable. That being said, the upside is absolutely there for Evans to become a strong player in the NFL. Evans is a little bit too light and if he can put on some weight, he will be a stud player. He will have to clean up his hands and feet as well. I think Evans is a project, but there is a ton of potential to his game.
Evans has stayed healthy his entire career.
Mark Evans’ scouting report
Athletic Ability (35)
Athleticism: 15
- Speed (4/7) – Very average speed. Wouldn’t want to use him as a pulling guard or anything extravagant. Best fits a left guard spot.
- Lateral Quickness (5.5/8) – Good lateral quickness. Has solid feet. Moves well with the defender.
Strength/Power: 20
- Upper Body Strength (5/8) – Good upper body strength. Has room to grow.
- Lower Body Strength (5.5/8) – Solid lower body strength, looks like he can handle himself well against a lot of power.
- Brute Power (2/4) – Not much of a brute, it’s not really his style. More of a finesse blocker.
Lineman Technique (55)
Anchor/Plant: 15
- Anchor (5/8) – Has a decent anchor. Settles well. Not as flexible as some players in this class.
- Plant Recovery (3.5/7) – Struggles to recover effectively, needs to put on some more weight.
Hand Usage: 10 –
- Placement (2.5/4) – Hand placement is decent, but not ideal. Can get a little too far outside and struggle to maintain his leverage.
- Hand Strength (2/3) – Shows good hand strength to hold up even when he’s struggling to maintain leverage.
- Technique (1.5/3) – Gets hands on the defender initially well but doesn’t understand how to maintain the block.
Pass Block: 15 –
- Strength (4.5/8) – Fairly strong in pass protection. Looked too slim in Shrine Bowl practices and struggled with power.
- Technique (4.5/7) – Does a good job understanding what positioning he can open up and where he can’t allow the defender to go. Does lose positioning when a defender can get him to commit too hard to the inside.
Run Block: 15 –
- Strength (6/8) – Good strength. I like his downhill aggression and intensity.
- Technique (4/7) – Does a good job making blocks, I’d just like to see him work to the second level more consistently. Wants to pancake and finish too often.
Persona (10)
Football IQ: 5 –
- Understanding of Assignments (3.5/5) – Does a great job picking up stunts. Smart and heady player.
Overall: (70) – 5th/7th Round
