Andrew Wingard
Safety
Wyoming
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall experience at the 2019 East/West Shrine Game.
Andrew Wingard: It means a lot. Just considering where I come from, the state of Colorado is not a heavily recruited place. I got my chance to go to Wyoming and prove myself. Now I am getting my chance here. It means the world to me.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to prove to scouts during this week?
Andrew Wingard: I want to show scouts that I can do everything. I can be versatile. I was playing strong safety and covering TE’s today. I did that pretty well.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training?
Andrew Wingard: I have been training at EXOS in San Diego. I have been there for the past two weeks before this. I will be right back there on Monday.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Andrew Wingard: I am a really good downhill player. Making plays against the run, being an eraser. Making tackles when there is no else there. I can also bring versatility. I can be a FS as well. I also bring a lot of leadership to the table. I am a vocal leader. I encourage others.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Andrew Wingard: I have been working on my man to man coverage. I worked a lot on it this past offseason and at EXOS the past two weeks. I am working with a good DB coach. I am getting the technique down. Refining those techniques because I played SS at Wyoming.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Andrew Wingard: In 2016, it was that Boise State game. They were ranked #13. They came to Laramie. We beat them. The whole crowd stormed the field. We went 8-5 and made it to the Conference Championship.
Alex Khvatov: What is your biggest accomplishment in college?
Andrew Wingard: The last game of the season when I tied the MWC tackles record. My parents were in the stands. They were there to see that. It capped off a great career. To be in the conversation and setting records. I was a two-star guy coming out. Seeing my dad tearing up underneath those glasses. It really made me proud.
Alex Khvatov: What players at Wyoming should we keep an eye on for next season?
Andrew Wingard: Logan Wilson is my number one. He is a good LB. He is going into his fifth year. He is an athletic guy. Sean Chambers was a true freshman last year. CB Tyler Hall is one of the fastest dudes that I have ever played with.
Alex Khvatov: What one word best describes you?
Andrew Wingard: Fiery.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Wyoming?
Andrew Wingard: My dad played at Nebraska in the 80’s. Coach Bohl was a GA at Nebraska. He knew my dad. He knew about me. They were the first team to call and offer me.
