Devin Duvernay
Wide Receiver / Texas
Ed Hunt: How do you feel after going through your week of practice. Were you able to show the scouts everything you wanted?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah, yeah! I think it was a solid week of practice. I got to showcase some of the skills. I got to see the film. Yeah, I got one more chance on gameday on Saturday to show what I can do.
Ed Hunt: I see a lot more catches in traffic. Is that something you can bring to a team, going over the middle and bringing that toughness?
Devin Duvernay: I think today that is my job as a receiver to catch the ball whether I am wide open or not. When I drop the ball, whether the DB is on me or not, I own it and I have to try to get better off of that.
Ed Hunt: Can you tell me about your teammate, Collin Johnson?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah! Big target, big threat. You all saw him today in the red zone in the one on ones. He’s a big target, can run routes and the ultimate team player. He is the guy you want on your team.
Ed Hunt: Can you tell me about underclassman quarterback Sam Ehlinger?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah, truly the definition of a leader. A guy that’s improved every single year. He’s tough, he’s physical and he’s smart. He always puts us in the right situation. He can make the throw he needs to. He can run it on 4th and four and get the first down. He’s a guy you want on your team as well.
Ed Hunt: At this point in the draft process, what are your strengths?
Devin Duvernay: My run after the catch, being physical, speed, and my hands.
Ed Hunt: What’s your weakness or thing you are trying to work on before draft day?
Devin Duvernay: Just continue to clean up my routes, fundamentals. The technique to progress at that, so I can continue to be a high level receiver.
Ed Hunt: Where are you training for the NFL Draft?
Devin Duvernay: Back home in Dallas.
Ed Hunt: Can you talk about Texas Longhorns, proud tradition and for a long time. For a few years, you were down and now you guys are bringing them back. You are part of that class, now being a Senior. Can you talk about how you guys have done that?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah, just getting the young guys to buy in. Upperclassmen had to change the culture and get the younger guys to buy in and bring these young guys on board to help bring a physical culture, so that we can show that losing is not okay. We will never get comfortable with losing, so we did the best we could to instill that in us. We wanted to leave a legacy and continue to allow that team to build.
Ed Hunt: Can you tell me about some underclassmen that we should be keeping an eye on for next season?
Devin Duvernay: Sam (Cosmi) of course! Brennan Eagles and Joseph Ossai. Those are the first three guys that popped up into my head. They are unbelievably talented and work their tails off and care and want to win every day. They work their tails off in the offseason, and the sky is the limit for them.
Ed Hunt: Talking about corners in the Big 12 conference, can you give me maybe three guys that were especially tough to go against this year?
Devin Duvernay: Since I was in the slot particularly this year, I didn’t see much corner action. But safety wise, Baylor had good safeties.
Ed Hunt: Can you say one safety that stood out for you?
Devin Duvernay: Braylon Arnold is pretty good.
Ed Hunt: Have you hired an agent?
Devin Duvernay: Yup.
Ed Hunt: Have you talked to a lot of scouts here?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah, I have.
Ed Hunt: Do they ask you questions about your personal history?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah, just scout questions.
Ed Hunt: Do you have a good personal background?
Devin Duvernay: Yeah.
