LB Durrell Nash (Saint Augustine’s University) Interview

Durrell Nash
Linebacker / Saint Augustine’s University

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Durrell Nash:  6’0, 230 and 4.58.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.

Durrell Nash:  The FCS Bowl was pretty fun.  I wish that I could’ve gotten some more reps.  But for the most part, I think I made an impression on scouts and performed well during the game.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Durrell Nash:  Coming out of high school, I only had one scholarship offer to Lincoln University and signed as soon as I got it.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Saint Augustine’s University?

Durrell Nash:  I chose Saint Augustine because the coaches were very honest with me.  Some programs and coaches don’t tell kids the full story, and I just developed a great relationship with the linebackers’ coach there.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Durrell Nash:  Speed, strength, physicality, tackling and effort.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Durrell Nash:  Becoming more flexible has been a big part of my offseason training and continuing to become a more explosive athlete.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Durrell Nash:  I bounced around from school to school trying to find a perfect fit for me.  Going from a D-II to a junior college to a division I and then back to a D-II.  I just wanted to make sure wherever I ended up, I would be able to contribute to the team.  During my career I’ve been an All-American, an all-state honoree and all conference.  I was the 4th leading tackler in the CCCAA, and the 18th leading in tackles per game in division-II football.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Durrell Nash:  The highlight of my career would probably be our upset win against Fayetteville State this year where I had two interceptions.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from your coaching staff?

Durrell Nash:  No matter what situations and obstacles that life throws your way, you have to battle through adversity.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a LB?

Durrell Nash:  Being the leader of the defense and stopping the run.  I feel like as a linebacker, making tackles is the most important job we have.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Durrell Nash:  My favorite player in the NFL right now is Darius Leonard.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Durrell Nash:  Determine whether it’s a run or pass, whether the offensive lineman has his hands lightly on the ground or he’s more in an aggressive stance

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Durrell Nash:  Brandon Long, Troy Geathers, Isaiah Sampson, Akiel Greer, Dimitri Fitzgerald, Tyree Humes.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Durrell Nash:  Toughest player I faced was Jarome Johnson from Bowie State.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Durrell Nash:  Hitting people without getting in trouble for it.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Durrell Nash:  Working out, reading, and music.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Durrell Nash:  Become a coach/personal trainer and open up my own training facility.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Durrell Nash:  Determined, hardworking, aggressive, leader and unwavering.
