2023 HBCU Legacy Bowl Scouting Report – G Mark Evans II, Arkansas Pine-Bluff

Mark Evans II played left tackle at Arkansas Pine-Bluff but looks to fit better as a guard at the next level. As crazy as it sounds, he needs to add more weight to his frame. He has the skillset to hold up at the next level and is smart too. Evans is a major in Biology. His brother, Jessie, plays football at Prairie View A&M.

Mark Evans II accepted his invitation to the 2023 HBCU Legacy Bowl held in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Mark Evans II scouting notes

Pros:

  • Mark Evans II has good lateral quickness. Has solid feet.
  • Good upper body strength. He has room to grow.
  • Solid lower-body strength, and looks like he can handle himself well against a lot of power.
  • Has a decent anchor. Fairly strong in pass protection.
  • Does a good job understanding what positioning he can open up and where he can’t allow the defender to go.
  • Good strength. I like his downhill aggression and intensity.
  • Does a great job picking up stunts. Smart and heady player.

Cons:

  • Very average speed. I wouldn’t want to use him as a pulling guard or anything extravagant. He best fits a left guard spot.
  • Not much of a brute, it’s not really his style. More of a finesse blocker.
  • Hand placement is decent, but not ideal.
  • Gets hands on the defender initially well but doesn’t understand how to maintain the block.
  • Does lose positioning when a defender can get him to commit too hard to the inside.
  • I’d just like to see him work to the second level more consistently.
