Owen Pappoe was one of the highly coveted prospects entering his true junior season last year, but an injury forced him to miss most of the season, and it’s almost as though in just an offseason, people forgot about him. Pappoe is not the finished product that media scouts were saying he was last year – not even close to it. But he is a solid half-field prospect who offers good athleticism and can make plays. There are many good tools, he just needs to show he can be more consistent as a defender.

Owen Pappoe scouting notes
Pros:
- Has excellent speed for the position.
- Good upper body strength.
- Shows good tackling ability inside the box. He works well off of blocks to make the play. Wraps up cleanly and controls the tackle.
- Shows good man coverage ability. Not effectively covering crossing routes too often will get a step behind the play.
- Recognizes plays and moves well to stop them.
- Flashes good instincts to stay in the play. Made a very nice diving interception off a deflection against South Carolina.
Cons:
- Struggles at times in pursuit with his balance. Frequently over-pursues the play and doesn’t make it. He struggles to make tackles in space. Showed some improvement here in 2022.
- Doesn’t offer much pass-rushing ability. Struggles to get off of blocks as a pass rusher. Easily locked by blockers.
- He struggles to make tackles in space. Very concerning.
- He struggles to get the necessary depth while reading the play. Size plays a huge factor here.
