Steve Avila is an extremely versatile offensive lineman, starting games at center, left guard, right guard, and right tackle throughout his career at TCU. He’s a power blocker, relying on his strength and leverage to dominate the trenches, which he has done throughout his college career. He has room to grow in his technique and dealing with better finesse rushers, but his power is there and he’s athletic enough to be a week one starter.

Steve Avila scouting notes
Pros:
- Suitable speed to be a pull blocker.
- Shows decent lateral quickness.
- Decent, not great, upper body strength.
- Has a good lower body. Very stout.
- Very stout and solid anchor. Shows excellent bend.
- Solid recoverability. Flashes very strong recovery. Gets intense as he’s losing the rep to stifle the attack.
- I like everything about his pass blocking. He wants to bring the defender as close as he can to him to neutralize his hand usage against him.
- Very good at working up to the second level. Gets downhill very well.
- Strong run blocking technique – works mostly on capturing good angles.
- Very smart and active lineman. Constantly looking to help when he’s free – tends to help both sides on a single play.
Cons:
- Hand placement is something that Avila struggles with.
- Struggles with stronger hand fighters.
- TCU did not run a very professional-type scheme, and Avila may need time to adjust to an NFL offense.
