2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: EDGE Dylan Horton, TCU - NFL Draft Blitz

2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: EDGE Dylan Horton, TCU

A transfer from New Mexico, Dylan Horton made Bruce Feldman’s freaks list for his crazy athletic ability. His pass-rushing prowess took a step forward over 2022, finally posting some numbers and making plays during big points of the game. Horton still presents upside to his game and should post an overall good testing performance at the 2023 NFL Combine.

Dylan Horton scouting notes

Pros:

  • First snap is good and versatile. He can rush from stand-up and a three-point stance.
  • Has some explosion to his game.
  • Upper body strength is good, not great.
  • I don’t see a lot of hand usage from Horton pre-2022. This year, he’s gotten better. Is attacking now, has an idea of how to use his hands effectively. Does a great job getting his hands up to disrupt passing lanes.
  • Hand placement looks better and much improved in 2022. Looks like it could still get better but that will come with time.
  • Solid wrap up tackler.
  • Good pursuit defender inside of the box.
  • Has a good motor. Plays to the whistle.
  • I don’t see him taking many plays off. Stays in full go until the whistle.

Cons:

  • Average speed, even for his position group. Form is filled with wasted motion – needs to refine some of his running technique.
  • Very stiff athlete. Struggles to work under blocks effectively.
  • Made major jump in 2022 – maybe a bit of a late bloomer.
