2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: TE Luke Musgrave, Oregon State

Luke Musgrave missed the majority of the 2022 season with an injury, only playing in three of the first four games of the season. However, he’s shown every bit of athletic ability that is desired at the tight end position at the next level.

Luke Musgrave scouting notes

Pros:

  • He is an excellent athlete, ridiculous speed at his size.
  • Upper body strength is good.
  • Excellent acceleration. Very explosive athlete.
  • Nifty route runner, especially considering his size.
  • Shows solid receiving ability.
  • Can stretch the field – did most of his damage at Oregon State stretching the field.
  • Can make solid catches through contact.

Cons:

  • Struggles to change direction effectively.
  • Not a powerful guy, per se.
  • He still needs 3-4 steps to get through a cut, something we hope to see him continue to improve.
  • Not a strong pass blocker.
  • Doesn’t have any real bend or ability to maintain leverage. Just a big body to keep in the way of things.
  • Not an incredibly strong run blocker.
  • The technique is loose but capable. He doesn’t look like a guy you’re going to rely on to run behind.
