2023 Tropical Bowl Scouting Notes: RB Jamyest Williams, Georgia State

A transfer from South Carolina, Jamyest Williams moved to running back from defensive back, and was a four-star cornerback (8th in the country). He started games in 2018 as a safety. Williams was used as a punt returner because of his field vision, speed, and quickness. He can provide rare two-way contributions to an NFL roster and is an absolute fit on special teams as both a coverage player and a return specialist.

Jamyest Williams scouting notes

Pros:

  • Very quick. Runs with some serious intensity.
  • Just keeps moving people. He is a strong runner between the tackles considering his size.
  • Accelerates well. Speed and quickness are his biggest factors as a runner.
  • Decent explosiveness.
  • Reads blocks extremely well.
  • Very savvy and intelligent to how defenders react to him. Sets them up beautifully with his run.
  • Surprisingly stout between the tackles. Has excellent contact balance. Bounces off of tacklers and absorbs contact extremely well.
  • Very difficult to track in the open field. Typically breaks past first contact.
  • Capable receiver out of the backfield.

Cons:

  • Too small to be an effective pass blocker.
  • Not particularly quick at picking up free rushers.
  • He has six years of experience under his belt from college – might be considered a short-term prospect who has maxed out his potential.
