2023 Senior Bowl Scouting Notes: ROVER Chamarri Conner, Virginia Tech

Chamarri Conner has been a playmaker in the Virginia Tech secondary over the last few seasons since becoming a starter in 2019. He’s been a prototype ROVER prospect, someone who can play multiple coverages and still presents some upside to grow into. Conner has a lot of work to do in man coverage but can be a valuable player in a heavy zone scheme.

Pros:

  • Excellent speed. Really impressed with some of what he displays.
  • Shows good lateral quickness. Sets contain well.
  • Very well built upper body.
  • Change of direction is good, not great.
  • Good wrap up technique, attacks the waist of the ball carrier. Can deliver some serious hit power.
  • Reliable space defender.
  • Good pursuit angles, especially in space. Plays very well downhill into the box.
  • Times his rushes well and was oftentimes utilized as a rusher.

Cons:

  • Struggles with position in 1v1 coverage. Doesn’t really contest the catch point. Surrenders too much space.
  • Lacks a lot of physicality while working downfield.
