Kaevon Merriweather is an intriguing prospect who has upside both as a deep safety as well as a ROVER underneath. With the right fit, Merriweather can be a solid impact player in year one. He’s a smart, heady player who held division 1 basketball offers coming out of high school. I really like his play and I think he will have a solid NFL career.

Kaevon Merriweather scouting notes
Pros:
- Good speed. Looks to be effective in space. Moves very well. Should run about a 4.45.
- Excellent lateral quickness. Smooth, crisp athlete.
- Good explosion and acceleration ability. Very strong lower body is evident on tape.
- Has solid hips. Rotates well, has a decent twist he can get into.
- Solid wrap-up tackler.
- Solid pursuit defender. Doesn’t over pursue, plays well both in and over the box, as well as working to the boundary.
- Very solid blitzer. Shows good timing most of the time and has the closing speed to impact the quarterback very well.
- Tends to position well. Reaction is usually good.
- Good space defender. Closes extremely well.
- Shows good instincts most of the time.
- Recognizes play concepts well.
Cons:
- Is not going to get off of blocks if he’s tied up on a blitz.
- Iowa didn’t play a lot of match coverage, so that might be something he will need to learn.
- Sometimes is a little too reactive to motion and flow, but has some serious athletic ability to work back into place.
