Tyjae Spears is a budding star who has a chance to be immensely productive at the NFL Level. He completed his collegiate career with eight straight 100-yard rushing performances, including a 205 yard outing in the Cotton Bowl against USC along with 4 touchdowns. Spears went forward and won the Senior Bowl weigh-ins, measuring in much bigger than most people projected him to be. His Senior Bowl week was astonishing, solidifying any thoughts on his skillset. 

While Tyjae Spears is an exciting prospect, his upside is very limited as Spears is about a finished product. He might be able to improve his route-running prowess some, but for the most part Spears is who he is. He’s not going to be a guy who can generate consistent power, but he can play well in pass protection when he needs to and is an exciting, efficient one-cut runner. 

So after watching this clip I’ve come to the decision that Tyjae Spears is NOT human!

Missed the majority of the 2020 season with a knee injury. Besides that, he has done a good job staying healthy throughout his career.

Speed/Athleticism: 15 – 

• Speed (6/7) – Excellent speed. An absolute burner. Angle breaker.  
• Change of Direction (3.5/4) – Changes direction decently well. Very shifty. 
• Body Control (2/4) – Doesn’t have a wide variety of moves to try and spring himself into space. Much more willing to just lower his head. 

Power/Strength: 10 –

• Run Power (2/5) – Runs with a low pad level and can create power situations in space. Not good at generating power in a scrum. 
• Brute Strength (1.5/5) – Not much of a brute. Doesn’t have that kind of size or running strength. 

Burst/Explosion: 12 – 

• Acceleration (5/6) – Acceleration is seamless and very fast. 
• Explosiveness (5/6) – Extremely explosive athlete. 

Running Back Traits (25)

Field Vision: 15 – 

• Reading Blocks (8.5/10) – Reads blocks extremely well. Always seems to find the hole. Pops through and can follow the wormhole. 
• Understanding Defenders (4/5) – Manipulates defenders so well with his movement. Understands how to set them up very well. 

Contact Balance: 10 – 

• In Power (4/5) – Runs well between the tackles. Excellent contact balance, almost never goes down on first contact. 
• In Space (5/5) – Almost unstoppable in space. So difficult to bring down. Quick enough to continuously take bad angles.

Catch Ability: 15 – 

• Natural Hands (8/10) – Very capable and effective receiver out of the backfield. Can be used in a variety of different ways. Very reliable as a checkdown option. 
• Catch Through Contact (3/5) – Can make catches through contact decently well. 

Route Running: 5 – 

• Route Running (3/5) – Decent route runner. 

Pass Block Ability: 13 – 

• Power (4/5) – Very effective pass blocker. Excellent power. 
• Quickness/Bend (3/5) – Positions himself very well. Very quick to recognize when he needs to pick up defenders in protection. 
• As a Chip Blocker (1.5/3) – Wasn’t asked to do it much but is decent as a chip blocker.
