Jahmyr Gibbs is an explosive, young, exciting running back who transferred in from Georgia Tech. A silky smooth runner who was used effectively on kick returns as well. His statistics at Georgia Tech were mostly underwhelming. Still, I believe that was due to the rotational backfield that Gibbs played in and the quarterback he played with, who was much like a young Robert Griffin III.

I don’t think that Gibbs provides any real upside and that he’s pretty much a finished project at this point. He has excellent athleticism, is already a polished receiver, and I don’t think he’s going to generate much more strength to hold up better as a pass protector.
I am slightly concerned with some of the hits that Gibbs takes. He’s not the biggest guy in the class, and as a result, I worry that he will struggle to hold up at the NFL level. Missed a game with Alabama.
Jahmyr Gibbs scouting report
Athletic Ability (37)
Speed/Athleticism: 15 –
- Speed (6.5/7) – Excellent speed. Very quick and fast. Has the speed to turn the corner. I would estimate his forty time is around 4.35.
- Change of Direction (3.5/4) – Very sudden runner. Very shifty and does an excellent job with his cuts and exploding off the change.
- Body Control (3/4) – Flashes the ability to work the sideline extremely well. I think that he needs to be more consistent in knowing where he is on the field.
Power/Strength: 10 –
- Run Power (3/5) – I don’t see a lot of run power from Gibbs, as he can get some momentum moving to fall forward.
- Brute Strength (2.5/5) – Not a lot of strength.
Burst/Explosion: 12 –
- Acceleration (5.5/6) – Accelerates seamlessly.
- Explosiveness (6/6) – Incredibly explosive runner.
Running Back Traits (25)
Field Vision: 15 –
- Reading Blocks (6/10) – Struggles to read his blocks effectively. Oftentimes tried to do too much on his own and relied on his athletic ability. When being patient in the hole between the tackles, Gibbs is most easily contained.
- Understanding Defenders (4/5) – Reads defenders very well and knows how to make them miss in a variety of ways.
Contact Balance: 10 –
- In Power (4/5) – Strong contact balance, both in space and in traffic. Struggles to break tackles if he’s not at full speed.
- In Space (4.5/5) – Very strong contact balance. Shreds tacklers and stays upright very well. Won’t be brought down by an arm tackle.
Passing Game Ability (33)
Catch Ability: 15 –
- Natural Hands (9/10) – Good receiver out of the backfield. Made some ridiculous circus catches at Georgia Tech. Very strong hands.
- Catch Through Contact (4.5/5) – Has the ability to effectively make catches through contact. Can do it down field and around the line of scrimmage.
Route Running: 5 –
- Route Running (3/5) – Not a great, consistent route-runner. Can be difficult for a quarterback to read when working downhill.
Pass Block Ability: 13 –
- Power (2/5) – Doesn’t have a lot of power in pass protection, mostly due to his size. Really struggles to do much good in 1v1 situations. Technique isn’t good and Gibbs lacks the confidence to take people on.
- Quickness/Bend (3.5/5) – Can get to the defender quickly, does not offer bend or much resistance. Have to wonder if he can recognize pass protection schemes well enough to make a correct read consistently – struggled with that at Georgia Tech.
- As a Chip Blocker (2/3) – Can be a very effective chip blocker.
Overall: (80.5) – 1st/2nd Round
