2023 NFL Scouting Report: OT Anton Harrison, Oklahoma

2023 NFL Scouting Report: OT Anton Harrison, Oklahoma

There is no doubt that Anton Harrison is very athletic and can hold up at the left tackle position professionally, but Harrison has some technique points that he still needs to clean up. I don’t doubt that Harrison can’t be a great pro, and my projection has him going high, but if he’s not in the right situation when he’s drafted or pressed into service immediately, things could go very badly for his career.

Anton Harrison

OT – Oklahoma Sooners

HT: 6045
WT: 315
WING: N/A
ARM: 3418
HAND: 928
DOB: 2/2/2002
Year: Super Sophomore
High School: Archbishop Carroll (Washington, DC)
HS Rating: 4 star (0.9271)

Projected Draft Grade: Future starter

Projection: 2nd/3rd round

Anton Harrison certainly presents himself with some intriguing upside, and it’s mostly in his ability to develop the way he uses his hands. Harrison right now is quite raw and could be a more consistent player if he knew how to use his hands better. Outside of that, Harrison is about a finished product, and there isn’t much left for him to learn at Oklahoma.

Missed a game in 2021 with a left shoulder issue. Left a game in 2022 for a couple of quarters but returned the next week.

Anton Harrison’s scouting report

Athletic Ability (40)

Athleticism: 20 –

  • Speed (7.5/10) – Very decent athlete. Moves very well.
  • Lateral Quickness (8/10) – Shows excellent lateral quickness. Moves very well and keeps his body square while maintaining his positioning.

Strength/Power: 20 –

  • Upper Body Strength (5.5/7) – Decent upper body strength. Certainly can handle himself very well at times with his upper body strength.
  • Lower Body Strength (5.5/7) – Has a solid lower half that he relies on well to hold up in his assignments. Fairly explosive lower half. I don’t see a lot left to fill out.
  • Brute Power (4/6) – Flashes some solid power at times.

Lineman Technique (45)

Anchor/Plant: 10 –

  • Anchor Strength (4.5/5) – Shows solid bend. Excellent anchor. Holds up very well with his lower body strength and the way that he positions.
  • Plant Recovery (3/5) – He doesn’t get beat often, but I don’t see the recoverability I want to see. Struggles to regain control of the rep.

Hand Usage: 15 –

  • Hand Placement (3.5/7) – Hand placement isn’t great at times. Looks like he’s still raw using them to me. Doesn’t know how to lock into defenders and gain leverage and control.
  • Hand Strength (4/5) – Very strong hands. Was absolutely dominant against lesser prospects.
  • Technique (1.5/3) – Technique still needs some developing but shows some hands ability to make things happen.

Pass Block: 10 –

  • Strength (4.5/5) – Very strong pass rusher. Shows an excellent anchor and can attack as a pass blocker as well. Shows the ability to bend and get very low while working into his set.
  • Consistency (3/5) – Can get caught setting too early and doesn’t react well enough to recover.

Run Block: 10 –

  • Strength (3.5/5) – Decent run blocker, not great. Can certainly get low enough to effectively drive. Decent strength overall while moving downhill.
  • Consistency (2.5/5) – Struggles to maintain his leverage on a defender when trying to drive downhill. Tends to tuck his head away from the defender which doesn’t allow him to react effectively to a counter that a defender may have.

Persona (15)

Football IQ: 10 –

  • College Transition (3.5/5) – Spent a year in Lincoln Riley’s spread system as a full-time starter and a year in the more primitive RPO system with cheap college tricks.
  • Understanding of Assignments (4.5/5) – Reads stunts and other tricks relatively well. Passes off the stunts with relative ease.

Overall: 78.5 – 2nd/3rd round
