2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: EDGE Adetomiwa Adebawore, Northwestern

Adetomiwa Adebawore’s length stands out immediately on tape, and his measurements blew people away at the Senior Bowl. Adebawore is a powerful speed rusher who can threaten the backfield in a majority of ways. He’s developing his mental side of pass rushing, not quite there yet, but his athletic tools are all in place to become a force in the NFL.

Projection: 1st/2nd Round

I don’t see a lot of upside to Adebawore’s game. Looks like he’s about maxed out his ability. He’s very strong, tested well beyond his athletic capabilities could be expected. I think he’s done getting significantly better. He’s the player that we see he is right now.

Has done a great job staying healthy his entire career. Hasn’t missed a game in 3 years.

Adetomiwa Adebawore’s scouting report

Athletic Ability (45)

Speed/Athleticism: 20

  • Speed (7/7) – Very good athlete for the position. Has a decent speed rush that can be a handful to work against.
  • Lateral Quickness (6/7) – Very solid lateral quickness. Very quick feet and leverages his body very well.
  • Body Control (5.5/6) – Awesome body control. Flashes extraordinary stuff.

Burst: 10

  • First Step Quickness (4/5) – Very good first step. Powerful and quick.
  • Explosion (4.5/5) – Explosive athlete. Plays with solid explosion. Excellent burst.

Power/Strength: 15

  • Upper Body Strength (5/6) – Very strong upper body. Does a good job handling contact from any side.
  • Lower Body Strength (5/6) – Very stout lower body. Drives well, especially when he wins the leverage battle/
  • Pure Brute Strength (1.5/3) – Has brutish tendencies and can bully people with leverage.

Pass Rushing Mechanics (25)

Bend: 10

  • Balance (3.5/5) – Good balance to pull off a variety of moves.
  • Bend (3.5/5) – Has some bend, but mostly because he’s already closer to the ground than most edge rushers. Doesn’t take a lot of bend to dip under offensive tackles.

Finesse: 15

  • Hand Usage (3/5) – Hand usage still isn’t ideal. Needs to develop a plan going into a rep, isn’t doing that yet. Struggles to get off of blocks at times.
  • Hand Strength (4.5/5) – Hand strength is ridiculous. Very strong upper body and arms, uses that power to abuse some smaller blockers.
  • Hand Placement (3.5/5) – Get’s his hands to the right spot, just doesn’t know how to use them to get off of the block effectively.

Defender Ability (26)

Tackling/Pursuit: 16

  • Tackling Ability (4.5/6) – Strong tackling ability. Wraps up well and brings down the ball carrier with his weight. Missed 25% of his tackle attempts last year (20% over his career).
  • Space Defending (3/5) – Not a great space defender despite the athletic ability.
  • Pursuit Angles (3/5) – Angles aren’t great. Struggles to get a proper angle to make a good tackle.

Motor/Consistency: 10

  • Motor (4/5) – Good motor. Plays through the whistle with high intensity.
  • Consistent Motor (4.5/5) – Very consistent on a play-to-play basis.

Overall: (86.5) – 1st Round
