2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Kory Curtis, Gannon

2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Kory Curtis, Gannon

A transfer from Ohio State through Bryant, Kory Curtis walked onto Ohio State in 2017, only holding one offer coming out of high school from Mount St. Joseph. After two seasons, he moved onto Bryant where he played decently well, before transferring one more time after COVID to Gannon. He showed out as a Harlan Hill finalist the last two years and played well at the FCS Bowl and CGS. Has stayed healthy throughout his career.

QB – Gannon Knights

HT: 6041
WT: 243
WING: N/A
ARM: 3200
HAND: 968
DOB: 7/5/1998
Year: Super Redshirt Senior
High School: Island Coast (Cape Coral, FL)

Projected Draft Grade: Developmental QB3

Projection: PFA

There is tremendous upside in Kory Curtis’ game, which makes him an exciting prospect to study and one that got a lot of attention throughout the pre-draft process at the events he attended. He has a cannon for an arm but has had to do crazy work on his platform, that was much over-extended in college. He’s shown much improvement over the pre draft process but still has some work to go.

Has stayed healthy throughout his career.

Kory Curtis’ scouting report

Quarterback Ability (65)

Arm Talent: 20

  • Arm Strength (9.5/10) – Flashes some solid arm strength. Can throw with solid velocity. Has the arm strength to throw well off platform. Launched a football 84 yards on his pro day at Duquesne.
  • Touch Ability (2.5/5) – Doesn’t throw with touch well. Flashed it at times but needs to develop that part of his game.
  • Release (2.5/5) – Release is slightly extended. Long motion takes him a while to get through. Showed some improvement over the offseason with it.

Accuracy/Placement: 25

  • Accuracy (9/15) – Fairly accurate quarterback. Looks like he can make throws decently well.
  • Placement/Vision (6.5/10) – Flashes solid placement. Can throw the ball beautifully.

Pocket Presence: 10

  • Pocket Positioning (3/5) – Doesn’t position well in the pocket, can move right into pressure. Needs to keep his feet ready to throw at all times, something he will need to develop.
  • Pocket Maneuverability (3/5) – Nimble for his size. Very stout and strong, hard to bring down as he maneuvers the pocket.

Footwork: 10

  • Consistency (3/5) – Footwork is very raw and underdeveloped. Needs to work on his platform and base better. Platform Is much too wide, and needs to be more upright. Has shown marked improvement over the pre-draft process.
  • Quickness (3/5) – Heavy feet, but can move when he needs to.

Athleticism (20)

Mobility: 12

  • Outside of the pocket (4/7) – Can move outside of the pocket and make plays on the move. Not particularly good at it but about average.
  • Downfield Ability (2/5) – Limited athlete, won’t create much as a runner downfield.

Improvability: 8

  • Natural Improvability (2/4) – I don’t see the improvability on tape. Not that he isn’t capable of it, I just don’t see him doing it too much.
  • Play Extension (2.5/4) – Curtis can extend the play a little bit but overall is limited. He can work outside of the pocket and wants to extend the play that way, but it just isn’t really on tape.

Intelligence (15)

Football IQ/Field Vision: 10

  • Football Intelligence (4/5) – Ridiculously smart quarterback. Has a very solid understanding of the game.
  • Ability to read pre-snap (3.5/5) – Read pre-snap pretty well, but didn’t see a lot of advanced schemes.

Overall: (71) – 5th/7th Round
