Stacey Bedell Interview

Stacey Bedell

Running Back – Senior

Stony Brook

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Stacey Bedell:  5’9, 192 pounds and I ran a 4.39.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Stacey Bedell:  Right now, I am training at Revolution Athletics in New York.  Before the pro day, I was at Parabolic in New Jersey.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you satisfied with your Pro Day performance?

Stacey Bedell:  I was definitely satisfied.  If I didn’t get sick the week before, I could have done even better.  I had strep throat and I couldn’t eat.  I lost weight and I had to take the whole week off from training.  I wasn’t getting proper nutrition into my body.  I could have done more on the bench.  My broad was a 10’0, 34.5 on the vert, 3.97 in the shuttle and 11 reps on the bench.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you have any local pro days or private workouts scheduled?

Stacey Bedell:  I plan to participate in the local day with the Jets on April 5th

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Stacey Bedell:  I got my first offer from Stony Brook in 10th grade.  My senior year, I had James Madison, Villanova, Temple and a couple of other smaller schools.  I committed to Villanova and went on a visit.  I realized that it wasn’t a proper fit for me.  I went to JMU and committed after the visit.  The Villanova coach, who recruited me, got the job at UMass.  The school got in contact with me.  They offered me.  Boston College offered me as a DB.  I had a lot to prove.  I am a natural RB.  I wanted to prove people wrong.  UMass offered me at RB.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose UMass?

Stacey Bedell:  I wanted to play D-I football.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your career at UMass?

Stacey Bedell:  My freshman year, I was a starter on the punt team.  The third game of the season, I broke my collarbone.  I had to redshirt that year.  When I came back the next year, I started against Kansas, Villanova and Wisconsin.  We knew that the coaching staff was supposed to get fired.  We went 1-11 in each of my first two seasons.  The coaching change was going to occur, so I wanted to transfer.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you transfer to Stony Brook?

Stacey Bedell:  I wanted to play right away.  I wanted to come back home.  I wanted my family to come and watch me play.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career at Stony Brook.

Stacey Bedell:  We went 5-6 my first three seasons.  We made it to the second round of the playoffs my senior year.  We lost to James Madison.  My first year, I was second team all-conference.  I tore my labrum the next season.  I made third team all-conference my junior season.  I was first team all-conference my senior year.  I had over 1,000 rushing yards my sophomore year.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Stacey Bedell:  My speed and quickness.  I make one cut and get up field.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Stacey Bedell:  I am working on improving my strength more and catching the ball out of the backfield.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Stacey Bedell:  I can’t pick a specific game.  It was my senior season.  We got a chance to play in the playoffs.  We strived towards that.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Stacey Bedell:  Patriots.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Stacey Bedell:  LaDainian Tomlinson.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a RB?

Stacey Bedell:  Pass blocking.  During my training, it has been a main focus.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Stacey Bedell:  RB Jordan Gowins, LB Shayne Lawless, WR Julius Wingate and WR Donavin Washington.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from Stony Brook next season?

Stacey Bedell:  I talked to a few players who are coming back.  They are in a rebuilding process.  We lost 21 seniors last year.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced during your career?

Stacey Bedell:  My redshirt freshman year, there was a LB from Wisconsin (Chris Borland).  He was with the 49ers.  He was a great player.

Alex Khvatov:  Which NFL player would you compare your game to?

Stacey Bedell:  The game has changed in a big way.  I want to model my game after Alvin Kamara.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Stacey Bedell:  I love the whole aspect of the team.  They are like family.  I have a lot of passion for the game.  I love to compete against other athletes.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Stacey Bedell:  Play video games, eat and workout.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Stacey Bedell:  I haven’t thought about it that far.  I was an economics major.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, Stacey Bedell is….

Stacey Bedell:  Very laid back, humble and has a great personality.
